Wunmi Aloba, the spouse of the deceased musician Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has officially issued a pre-action notice to her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba.

In the pre-action notice served by her legal representatives, Wunmi Aloba demands an apology from Joseph Aloba for his defamatory, insulting, and libelous social media and newspaper posts concerning her.

Wunmi Aloba alleges that her father-in-law has recently engaged in derogatory name-calling and tarnishing her reputation through various means.

Part of the notice reads:

“…through newspaper campaign of calumny, character assassination, name-calling, defamation of characters against her and use of reckless language to portray her image and personality to gain cheap attention and sympathy from unsuspecting members of the public”.

The letter read:

“We have been consulted, briefed, and our services retained by Mrs. Aloba Cynthia Omowunmi, hereinafter referred to as “Our Client” and at her behest, we write you in respect of the above subject.

“Our Client’s brief reveals that you have recently resorted to a newspaper campaign of calumny, character assassination, name-calling, defamation of characters against her, and use of reckless language to portray the image and personality of our client to gain cheap attention and sympathy from the unsuspecting members of the public.”

“…If, however, you fail, refuse or neglect to hearken to this subtle demand, we will be left with no choice than to commence legal proceedings against you to assert our client’s rights and claim 50 million naira damages in that respect.”

The letter underscored an interview conducted by Mohbad’s father with Westo Adejumo Adekunle on African television, during which he expressed his animosity towards his late son’s widow, Wunmi Aloba.

Police clear Lizzy Anjorin of gold theft allegation

Lizzy Anjorin, the Nollywood actress, has finally been cleared of theft allegations by the Lagos state police command.

In February, some traders in the Idumota market in Lagos Island accused the film star of stealing gold and making a fake transaction after buying goods worth N91,000 from a store.

Anjorin denied the allegations and argued that the video evidence was a “setup” against her.

Speaking with TheCable Lifestyle on Friday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos state police spokesperson, said Anjorin has been cleared of all the allegations.

The police PRO revealed that their investigation found a mix-up at the payment point in the store.

In February, TheCable Lifestyle reported how six traders were arraigned before the chief magistrate court in Lagos Island for allegedly assaulting and blackmailing Anjorin.

Sola Samuel, the prosecuting counsel, said the defendants conspired to forcefully push and drag Anjorin, causing her grievous bodily harm.

Samuel told the court that the defendants’ actions caused a breach of public peace.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ade Oshodi, the representative of the defendants, prayed the court to grant them bail in the most liberal terms, stating they were traders.

In his ruling, A.A. Paul, the presiding magistrate, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety each.

He ordered that the defendants be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Services until they meet their bail terms.

AGN suspends Halima Abubakar for ‘spreading affair rumours between actors, notable Nigerians’

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended actress Halima Abubakar following an investigation into her “unprofessional misconduct”.

In a memo released on Friday, the guild said it found Halima “guilty of spreading false information about fellow members, associates, and patrons, including allegations of extramarital affairs with highly placed individuals”.

The AGN said a two-year-long investigation, conducted by a special secret investigation panel, uncovered Halima’s “involvement in slandering Nollywood”.

It added that the actress will face the national disciplinary committee to determine her full punishment.

The guild said she should not be allowed to participate in any filming projects during her suspension.

The AGN also said the secret panel is investigating other female members allegedly involved in scandals with Godswill Akpabio, the senate president.

“Following the thorough investigative report by the special Secret Investigation Panel set up to conduct an internal underground secret investigation into the activities of some blogs/bloggers since 2022,” the memo reads.

“After two years of the painstaking investigations, the Panel found out that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind all the slandering information of our members, associates and patrons, especially news of extra marital affairs linked with highly placed individuals in the society emanating from the industry.

“Therefore, Halima Abubakar is hereby placed on indefinite suspension from the Actors
Guild of Nigeria. She will face the National Disciplinary committee to determine her full punishment.
During this period of her suspension, she is not permitted to participate in any Agn and or filming activities.

“The National/State Chapter Taskforces have been duly mandated to monitor the
compliance of the above order as violations of the suspension rules may lead to further disciplinary actions.

“On behalf of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, I commend the professional and incisive work
done by members of the secret investigative panel.

“However, some female members on the watch-list are being investigated by the secret panel, especially in the recent release of names purported to have had dealings with the Senate President.”

In April, the federal high court in Abuja ordered the actress to pay N10 million in damages for publishing derogatory remarks against cleric Johnson Suleman.

In 2022, Halima called out the general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International on social media, claiming the pair once dated.

But Suleman threatened to sue her for “defamatory statements”.
