Waheed Ayilara, commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom state, is dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayilara reportedly died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Thursday from prostate cancer complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2024, Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police, deployed Ayilara to head the Akwa Ibom command of the force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayilara served as acting commissioner of police in Lagos in November 2023, succeeding Idowu Owohunwa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He earned a law degree (LL.B) from the University of Ibadan and masters of law (LLM) from the University of Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was appointed into the police force as a cadet assistant superintendent of police on May 18, 1992 and has served in various capacities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When contacted for confirmation, Timfon John, spokesperson of the Akwa Ibom police command, told TheCable that the police will only issue a statement on the demise after an official statement has been received from Ayilara\u2019s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson of the Lagos police command, has however confirmed Ayilara\u2019s passing to TheCable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
