{"id":90422,"date":"2023-05-30T14:29:13","date_gmt":"2023-05-30T13:29:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bodexng.com\/?p=90422"},"modified":"2023-05-30T14:29:16","modified_gmt":"2023-05-30T13:29:16","slug":"court-cases-aborted-efcc-speaks-on-dss-siege-on-lagos-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bodexng.com\/2023\/05\/court-cases-aborted-efcc-speaks-on-dss-siege-on-lagos-office\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Court cases aborted\u2019 \u2014 EFCC speaks on DSS \u2018siege\u2019 on Lagos office"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says court cases scheduled for hearing on Tuesday were aborted due to the siege of the Department of States Services (DSS) at its Lagos office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We had earlier reported that DSS officials prevented personnel of EFCC from gaining access to their office located at Awolowo road, Ikoyi, Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tussle between both agencies has to do with the ownership of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reacting to the incident, Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesperson, said his agency did not barricade the EFCC office in Ikoyi, adding that the DSS is only occupying its facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is not correct that the DSS barricaded EFCC from entering its office. No, it is not true. The service is only occupying its own facility where it is carrying out its official and statutory responsibility,\u201d Afunanya said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018EXHIBITS, SUSPECTS IN DETENTION DISRUPTED\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesperson, said DSS officials barricaded the entrance of the office of the anti-graft agency using armoured personnel carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uwujaren said inmates in the agency\u2019s detention facility have been left unattended to owing to the siege.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis development is strange to the Commission given that we have cohabited with the DSS in that facility for 20 years without incident,\u201d the EFCC spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy denying operatives access to their offices, the commission\u2019s operations at its largest hub with over 500 personnel, hundreds of exhibits, and many suspects in detention have been disrupted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCases scheduled for court hearing today have been aborted, while many suspects who had been invited for questioning are left unattended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven more alarming is that suspects in detention are left without care with grave implications for their rights as inmates.
