Fire Destroys University of Jos Library and Other Departments

University of Jos has postponed ongoing first semester examinations following Saturday night fire incident that destroyed the library complex and some faculties.
The Vice-Chancellor of University of Jos, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, briefed newsmen on Sunday after inspecting the buildings. He said that the fire started at about 6:30pm, in Unijos Library.
Prof. Maimako said:
“On the fourth floor, which was completely razed down, we have the departments of Psychology, Political Science, Economics and office of Dean of Management sciences. The departments of accounting and business management are also on the floor”.
He said that the building also had materials from the faculties of Education, Arts and Department of Geology.
Plateau State Director of Fire Service, Mr Samuel Musa, said that it took 6hrs to put out the flames. He said that when the incident was reported at 6.40pm, his men immediately rushed to the scene but had to call for reinforcements from other units because of the magnitude of the fire.
