Ghanaians calls police to arrest Wizkid over absence at concert

Published

Wizkid, the Nigerian music star, has come under fire for not showing up at a concert in Ghana.

The ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner was billed to perform at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

In a Twitter post, he also confirmed he would be performing at the concert.

But the ‘Essence’ crooner was said to have disappointed his Ghanaian fans after he failed to show up at the concert as promised.

Live Hub, the show promoter, confirmed Wizkid’s absence at the highly-publicized concert while accusing him of “breaching his contractual obligation”.

In a statement, the show promoter apologised for Wizkid’s absence. It also promised to refund those who paid for tickets.

“Wizkid breached his contractual obligation last night. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused,” the statement reads.

“We will issue full refunds to all who paid for tickets. Please send your barcode to thelivehubinfo@gmail.com.”

Wizkid’s absence at the event has continued to elicit a wave of criticism on Twitter, with some users demanding his arrest.

In now-viral video clips, music lovers were seen exiting the concert venue while lamenting the hours they wasted waiting for the singer.

Some users, however, defended the musician, arguing that his absence was due to “poor planning” by the organisers.

Wizkid was in the news recently after he claimed he does not listen to rap music because the genre is “boring and dead”.

The singer further stretches the list of Nigerian celebrities who have been called out for not showing up at their events.

Wizkid has finally reacted to the report.

Below are reactions to the singer’s absence at the concert:

Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Terry Akewe, known as Terri, has opened up on the challenges he has faced in his music career, including health issues, cyberbullying, and sacrifices made in pursuit of his passion.

In a series of posts via X on Saturday, Terri revealed, “Ulcer complications, anxiety issues. In and out of the hospital. Crazy hospital bills, mum losing her mind, all for the music. Shit crazy. Jesus never fails. We go win finally.”

The artist, signed to Wizkid’s Starboy Records, rose to prominence after featuring on Wizkid’s track “Soco” and has since released his debut EP “Afro Series,” with hit songs like “Shuu,” “Turn on Me,” “Bia,” and “Same You.”

However, Terri’s journey, according to him, has been far from smooth, as he stated, “Lost friendships, family, just trying to find myself. Stanship war and distractions, something I know little or nothing about.”

Acknowledging the toll the industry has taken on him, Terri pleaded, “Please, just see Terri for Terri. This shit is my whole life…. Support my craft.”

The singer also revealed that he had to sacrifice his education to pursue music, saying, “2018, after getting admission into UNILAG three times and couldn’t make it cause of finances, I was ready in 2018 to begin study, I quit cause of this music. I gave my all to it.”

Terri further noted his struggles with cyberbullying, which has been a challenge, as he admitted, “Since I got in here, suffered so much cyberbullying, All I wanna do is sing.”

Will Stevens, the United States consul general, has picked Tems as his favourite Afrobeats artiste.

Stevens recently hosted Bright Okocha, the Nigerian comedian fondly called Basketmouth, at the US consulate in Lagos.

The two engaged in conversations surrounding the consul general’s favourite locations, food, and artistes in Nigeria.

Responding to Basketmouth on his favourite artiste, Stevens mentioned Tems, adding that the songstress “is incredible and one of the best”.

He said although he has met with some top Nigerian artistes, “Tems is the one that I can tune in anytime”.

He revealed that his favourite song by Tems is her rendition of Bob Marley’s hit ‘No Woman, No Cry’ in the sequel of Black Panther.

“It is got to be Tems. That voice… I got a little bit of crush. Just listening to her on the ‘Black Panther when she sings ‘No Woman, No Cry’… the Bob Marley. She is incredible. She is one of the best,” he said.

“I have met a bunch of them Fireboy, Asake, Davido. I have not met Burna Boy but they are great guys. Wonderful people. I know Nigerian artistes and I can jam to them a little bit. But Tems is the one that I can just tune in anytime.”

Nigerian television presenter and filmmaker Stephanie Coker has opened up about her struggle with Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and how it affected her.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Coker spoke about the life-threatening nature of her PCOS diagnosis.

“I didn’t have a period for a whole year. I didn’t bleed. PCOS made me choose IVF. Mine was very severe and my doctors told me that it was life-threatening. I even ended up in a wheelchair and I was vomiting blood,” she said.

She spoke about how she conceived her first child, Ariella, via IVF and her attempt to conceive a second child via that same route. Unfortunately it failed, leaving her dejected. Coker told Jideonwo that she felt very rejected after the failed IVF and even suicidal, confessing that she once contemplated stepping in front of a moving car.

“I got pregnant and had my first child on the first IVF but the second one failed and I actually wanted to stand in front of a car and let the car hit me. My daughter wants a sibling. I’m not getting back on that flight with no baby. I called my friend and told her ‘I don’t think the child liked me. It didn’t stay,'” she said.

Coker is a known advocate for PCOS awareness and also released a film called “Where The Heck is My Period?” a documentary chronicling the daily lives of Nigerian women living with Polycystic ovarian syndrome. The documentary featured interviews with gynaecologists, religious leaders, public figures, and native African doctors.
