Funsho Adeolu questions source of some Nollywood actresses’ wealth

Funsho Adeolu, the Nollywood actor, has questioned the sources of wealth of some of his female colleagues.

In a recent chat with Teju Babyface on the King of Talk podcast, Adeolu claimed that he charges more money per role than most Nollywood actresses.

He argued that most actresses cannot fund their expensive lifestyle from the money they make from movies.

The film star also wondered why some of his female colleagues “ride bigger cars than me”.

“I charge more money per movie than most Nollywood actresses but they ride bigger cars than I do,” he said.

“They can’t say they only make money from acting movies to fund their lifestyle. These are people that if I collect N200,000 in a job, they can’t collect N20,000 but are riding bigger cars than I am riding.

“What they do is come on set, show themselves on TV and so they have the opportunities. They don’t have anything in their accounts.

“Going to big parties and spraying money but when you get back home you’re calling somebody to come and pay your house rent.

“All these people grew up in the village. 90% of them might not think they would ever come to Lagos.”

Ali Baba, the comedian, previously took a swipe at Nollywood actresses who flaunt unexplained wealth.

Eva Alordiah reveals how she went from being a starving rapper to co-owning tech firm

Eva Alordiah has opened up about her journey through financial struggles and the challenges of being an independent female rapper in Nigeria.

In a recent newsletter, the rapper shared how her passion for music initially came without the knowledge of how to turn it into a profitable career.

Eva Alordiah said she faced years of financial hardship as a result.

“I was barely able to stay afloat. Being an independent female rapper in Nigeria was hard,” she wrote.

“Being a star is one thing, but being a broke star is a whole different level of struggle to take on.

“I was living from check to check, barely able to afford rent.

“Being a broke, starving artist made me come face to face with my ignorance about money and how money works.”

Alordiah said rap was not seen as a commercially viable genre at the time.

She said being a woman in the industry made it even more difficult to succeed.

She said she found herself performing shows for little pay that mostly went into covering studio bills, promotions, and her personal needs.

The rapper further said she made a tough decision to step back from music to focus on improving her financial situation.

She credited the book ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’, which she first read at age 16, for giving her insight into how to approach money.

The rapper said this new focus led her to co-own a software company that helps people monetize their knowledge online.

“I went from wanting to make money online to becoming part-owner of a software company that helps other people make money online,” she said.

In 2022, Alordiah said she gave up her dream of becoming the “greatest female rapper in Africa” after a “deep, dark” depression.

We’re investigating actresses in rumoured affairs with Akpabio, says AGN

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) says it is investigating allegations that some actresses had romantic relationships with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In July, a blog claimed that Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Nancy Isime, and Ini Edo were involved in affairs with Akpabio, but the senate president denied the allegations.

Akpabio stated that his wife was enough for him, while Egbuson-Akande threatened to sue the blog for defamation.

In a memo released on Friday, the AGN confirmed that the actresses are on its “watchlist” and are being “investigated” by its secret panel.

“On behalf of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, I commend the professional and incisive work done by members of the secret investigative panel,” the statement reads in part.

“However, some female members on the watch-list are being investigated by the secret panel, especially in the recent release of names purported to have had dealings with the Senate President.”

The AGN also announced the suspension of Halima Abubakar for “spreading false information about fellow members, associates, and patrons, including allegations of extramarital affairs with highly placed individuals”.

The AGN said a two-year-long investigation uncovered Halima’s “involvement in slandering the film industry”.

It added that the actress will face the national disciplinary committee to determine her full punishment.
