Emergency workers rescue petrol attendant who fell into underground tank

Published

on

Emergency responders, yesterday carried out a rescue operation at Coinoil Petrol Station on Capitol Road, Agege area of Lagos State, after a petrol attendant fell into an underground petrol reservoir.

The incident, which happened around 6 p.m, also saw a Lagos State Fire Service Search and Rescue Officer slipping into the tank during the rescue attempt.

Eyewitnesses reported that the petrol attendant was attempting to check the fuel level in the underground tank when he accidentally fell in.

The situation prompted a swift response from the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA).

Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, provided a detailed account of the incident.

“Upon arrival, our response team found that one of the workers at the filling station had fallen into the underground petrol tank while trying to check the fuel level. Our team immediately initiated a rescue operation to save the individual,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The initial rescue effort was successful, and the petrol attendant was safely brought to the surface. However, the situation took a dangerous turn when one of the Search and Rescue Officers, involved in the operation, lost his footing and fell into the same underground tank. The responders quickly adapted to the new emergency and worked efficiently to rescue their colleague.

Despite the added complication, the second rescue was also successful, and both individuals were safely extracted from the underground tank. No fatalities were recorded during the incident.

Following the rescues, officials from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) were on hand to provide immediate medical attention to the victims.

The medical team worked to stabilise the petrol attendant and the rescue officer before transporting them to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for further evaluation and treatment.

The Lagos State Fire Service and LASEMA have, however, been commended for their swift action and professionalism in handling the potentially deadly situation. The successful rescue operations serve as a testament to the training and dedication of Lagos State’s emergency responders.

LASEMA’s swift response and effective rescue operations have once again demonstrated the agency’s commitment to public safety and emergency management.

I wasn’t invited to Davido’s wedding because of Zlatan, says Portable

Portable has accused Zlatan, his colleague, of causing him to miss Davido‘s wedding and straining his friendship with the singer.

On Tuesday, Davido and Chioma, his long-time partner, held their traditional marriage ceremony at Harbour Point Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The star-studded event was attended by dignitaries and celebrities, including Olamide, Fireboy, Iyabo Ojo, Victor Osimen, Obi Cubana, Zlatan, and Iyanya.

Portable had previously called out Davido for refusing a collaboration after a dinner with him in the US.

Following Davido’s wedding, Portable took to Instagram to claim he was invited but missed it due to Zlatan’s interference.

He accused Zlatan of disrupting the arrangements and advising Davido to be cautious around him.

“Davido invited me to his wedding and we discussed details. Zlatan Ibile called and disrupted things. If it were not for him, I would have attended the wedding,” Portable said.

This is not the first time Portable has called out Zlatan.

On June 12, Portable accused Zlatan of advising Davido to be careful around him.

Zlatan is yet to respond to Portable’s accusations.

Portable has a long history of feuding with fellow singers.

Angel Unigwe’s team calls out Kanayo O Kanayo for acting unprofessionally

Chief Juliet Kings, the manager of Angel Unigwe, released a statement regarding false statements made by the Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Kanayo O. Kanayo, in an Instagram video on June 21, 2024.

In the June 24 statement, Kings expressed his disappointment with Kanayo’s video, as the veteran accused Unigwe of professional misconduct and stated he would disrupt future sets where she intends to work.

“It therefore came as a rude shock to learn of and, more importantly, watch and listen to the false, unfounded and slanderous statements attributed to Mr Kanayo in the video in question, calling into question our professional ethics and, more importantly, threatening the very safety and right to dignity of Miss Unigwe, by threatening to disrupt and cause chaos at any set where she intends to work.

“These statements and threats, disseminated via video and social media platforms, are tantamount to an attempt at cyberbullying, they are entirely unfounded and have caused significant emotional distress to Angel and I,” Kings stated.

The manager denied the accusations and provided a detailed account of the events surrounding the film project which took place between June 17 and June 19.

According to him, Unigwe participated in the project under clear and agreed terms with Kanayo.

“As a background to the events that led to this, between the 17th of June 2024 and the 19th of June 2024, Miss Unigwe participated in a film project under clear and agreed terms, most important of all being a daily wrap time of 9 pm.

“Despite our concerns about the feasibility of filming fifty-seven (57) scenes in three (3) days, we proceeded based on the assurances we received from Mr Kanayo O. Kanayo and his director, in person of Ndifreke Matthew, that the three days period will be sufficient for shooting and that the talent’s shooting time of 12 hours starting from 9 am to 9 pm is acceptable to them, moreso there will be no extension considering her prior engagement,” Kings stated.

Unigwe’s manager also stated after working for an extra 45 to 50 minutes above the agreed hours, they left the location.

“Upon completion of the shoot, we left the location without protest from the director or the production manager Mr Cosmos Nwaihe, having performed our obligations.”

Kings noted that Kanayo’s action is a manifestation of gender-based oppression and called for professionalism from the actor.

“This situation highlights a broader issue of gender-based oppression, as we have been subjected to derogatory and defamatory remarks simply because we stood our ground and insisted on compliance with the terms of the agreement all parties had freely entered into.

“It is disheartening to see such behaviour in an industry that should be built on mutual respect and professionalism and even more shocking from an individual who we hold in high esteem and is considered a veteran of the industry,” he stated.

Davido has threatened to sue Dammy Krane over alleged defamation of character and cyberbullying.

Krane, in a post via X on Friday, accused Davido of being a “murderer” while hurling curses at the ‘OBO’ hitmaker.

He also shared a video of Davido and Chioma and alleged that the 31-year-old is getting married because “your girl caught you cheating”.

But in a statement on Friday, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, Davido’s legal representative, said Krane’s allegations “are unverified, false, and outlandish”.

The lawyer described Krane’s post as “malicious, orchestrated to defame and injure the reputation of Davido”.

“We are informed by our client that you have repeatedly published statements on your social media platforms that he finds not only defamatory and offensive but which also constitute an act of cyberbullying,” the statement reads.

“The false nature of your publications is evident, and it is clear that you have not verified their accuracy. The malicious nature of your post is also evident from your subsequent post taunting our client and stating that “HE CAN’T SUE BECAUSE I SPEAK THE TRUTH OPONU”, when in fact you know your allegations to be false and outlandish.”

Krane was also asked to delete the tweet on Davido within 24 hours or face legal action, including damages and injunctive relief.

“Within 24 hours from the date of this letter, remove and retract the offensive publication from all your social media platforms,” it added.

“Immediately refrain from any further publication of defamatory statements against our client on any platform whatsoever.

“Take notice that your failure to comply with these demands within the stipulated timeframe will compel our client to pursue all available legal remedies, including but not limited to initiating legal proceedings against you for damages and injunctive relief, and escalating this matter to the relevant law enforcement agencies.”

The singers have not been on good terms since 2022 after Krane accused Davido of unpaid debts.
