“Give us gay hero, Disney”
People have taken to social media to campaign for Disney to create its first lesbian hero.
Frozen’ is arguably Disney’s most progressive animated hit yet. The animation giant decided to bin the “princess breaks a spell after finding true love with a prince” trope to focus on sisterly love and women empowerment.
Now, with ‘Frozen 2’ in production, the public are asking Disney to take it one step further and make one of its leading characters gay.
Twitter user Alexis Isabel started the trend on Sunday when she asked Disney to “give Elsa a girlfriend”.
The hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend has since started trending as other users have also asked the animation studio to create its first gay hero.
