IBB Supports Kabiru Tanimu Agenda For President

Published

on

Former Nigeria military President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, saying “your agenda is capable of redeeming Nigeria.”

Badamasi said on Tuesday when he visited the PDP Presidential aspirant at his residence in Minna Niger State that Nigeria’s unity must not be compromised.

According to him “your road map can lead Nigeria to prosperity. We are taught in the Military that the Unity of Nigeria must not be compromised. The programmes in your agenda are capable of transforming Nigeria.

“From your agenda, I believe you mean well for this country. I think if you are given the chance Nigeria will witness tremendous development”.

General Babangida further stated that the unity of Nigeria must be given priority adding that “Nigeria has never been so divided”.

General Babangida, however, warned that “even though I have adopted you and you emerge as the President I will follow you up so that if you derail, I will remind you of your promises.”

Earlier, the Presidential aspirant, who was on a sensitisation visit to PDP stakeholders in Niger state had told the former military president during the visit how he intended to tackle insecurity, the decline in national security, worsened economy as well as increasing unemployment among the youths.

He requested the support of General Babangida for the realisation of his 2019 presidential ambition saying that “if voted into power I will implement policies and programmes that will bring smiles to the faces of Nigerians. I have all that is needed to improve the country.”

While speaking to stakeholders at the PDP Secretariat he stated that the rate of insecurity is increasing in the country also admitted that not less than 22 out of the 36 states in the country were under one form of insecurity or the other.

He further saying if he were to be the President he would have sack all the security chiefs because of the unnecessary relationship among them.

Accordingly, he said “insecurity is now spreading to Sokoto, Niger, Kebbi, in fact not less than 22 states in the country are under one form of insecurity or the other.”

While scolding the All Progressives Congress (APC), Turaki said “I blame the APC government for opening door for theft of public funds. Corruption in public offices are more now than during the PDP.”

“They (APC) had accused the PDP of corruption and insecurity, but now that they were given the opportunity, they failed. They could not curtail the Boko Haram menace which has even transcended to what we call killer herdsmen who have now infiltrated many states.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Barrister Tanko Beji acknkledge the transparency of the PDP aspirant also assured him that the State will support him.

“You are the first Presidential aspirant to visit us and because of that, you have an edge over others. We have agreed in Niger that any aspirant who don’t come to us will bot get our votes.

“We have 106 delegates as a state, we need a candidate like you who can tackle the problems that are currently bedevilling our nation. I can assure you that 14 days to the primaries, we will send you the names of our delegates and we will be fair in our dealings with you.”

Barrister Tanko also stated that “for the PDP to win the 2019 presidential election it should avoid impunity by allowing the will of delegates to prevail during the primary election.”

Personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) have apprehended a suspected vote buyer in the ongoing Ondo governorship election.

The man was nabbed on election day at ward 4, polling unit 007, outside St Stephen’s Primary School, Akure.

Television footage showed the operatives and passers-by bellowing on the man to open the boot of his Toyota Camry car. Once he did, two ‘Ghana-must-go’ bags were seen sitting pretty.

The bags were not opened before the cameras as a mob encircled.

The DSS operatives then shoved the man into a white bus from where he was spirited away.

Vote-buying has become commonplace in Nigeria’s elections. Civil society organisations continue to bemoan the trend where agents of political parties carry cash to polling units to induce voters to cast their ballots a certain way.

Outrage as Betty Akeredolu calls Nigeria a zoo

Published

Betty Akeredolu, widow of the late Rotimi Akeredolu, former governor of Ondo, has been criticised for comparing the US presidential election to Nigeria’s 2023 general election.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Betty juxtaposed the period it took to count and announce winners in both polls.

She has also been berated for calling Nigeria a zoo while responding to critics of her posts on the elections.

“When dishonesty is prioritised, simple things become difficult,” she said of Nigeria’s election.

“2023 Nigerian Presidential Election: Total Votes Cast: 25 million, Counting Duration: 5 days. 2024 U.S Presidential Election: Total Votes Cast: 155 million. Counting Duration: Approx. 10 hours.”

In another post, she said, “I made an honest but harmless observation on Nigerian and US presidential elections. Twitter is now on fire. Truth hurts and hurts with tribal colouration”.

“If the 2023 election presidential benefitted you as an individual or group, was that the best Nigeria could offer? Alas, they turned it into a tribal war of words. Nigeria is irredeemable! So sad,” she added.

“Very bitter indeed! Who will rescue Nigeria? What a zoo country!”

One Adegoke Adebisi said counting of votes continues in the US despite the announcement of Donald Trump as president-elect.

“This is not factual. The election was determined in 10 hours but counting continued till Friday, but results were posted live,” Adebisi said in response to Betty’s post.

“Grandma doesn’t even know what electoral college is, she thinks they count each ballot in the US election to declare Trump. You don’t even have the moral justification to criticise a system ur husband benefited from,” another post reads.
