I couldn’t eat or sleep – Solidstar recounts battle with drug addiction
Nigerian singer Solidstar has revealed how he became introduced to hard drugs by some friends in 2021.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the recently sober artiste narrated how he moved to the Festac area of Lagos State after being on the Island for a while recording music. There, he said he was introduced to illicit substances that debilitated him.
“When I got tired of being on the Island, I went to Festac to chill. You heard that I went crazy right? It was there that they introduced me to one substance. You know that time, there were many available substances,” he said.
Going into detail, he noted that he was introduced to the unnamed drug by some new friends that he made in the area, and he found himself addicted to it over time.

Kwam 1 stays mum as ex-drummer accuses him of maltreatment
Wasiu Ayinde, the Fuji singer better known as Kwam 1, has refused to address the allegations of maltreatment against him.
Last week, Kunle Ayanlowo, the singer’s former drummer, alleged that he “achieved nothing” while working under him for over three decades.
In a now-viral interview, the instrumentalist also claimed that Kwam 1 was fond of treating his band members like “modern slaves”.
The Ibadan-based drummer said he “lived in fear” while working under Ayinde for 32 years.
Among other allegations, Ayanlowo also claimed they were underpaid by the Fuji maestro.
He asked the public to hold the singer responsible should any harm befall him.
“The money I can vividly remember and I calculated was when we went for a show from 2021 to 2022. It was a December time. During that period we are usually busy. We had 46 shows. We started in October ending and did the shows until January. I collected N370,000 at the end of the day (N8043 per show),” he said.
“From this money, I was traveling from Ibadan to Lagos. I will book for hotels which the least of it is N10, 000. I will eat twice. A plate of their food I could afford was N3000. I did not include the transport fees I was expending. What I used to sustain myself financially was that some of my fans spray me money.
“I told you earlier that we had a misunderstanding at some point. During that period I was abroad. That was where I got money to spend these two bedrooms. It is God that did it. I did not get the money from these people.
“I can tell you categorically that I did not achieve anything apart from the money I spent on feeding. The remaining is gotten whenever there is a show and I spend it on transport fare.
“The day we fought I told him categorically that even in 20 years if anything happens to me, including a headache, Wasiu Ayinde should be held responsible. It was a stage fight.”
When newsnen contacted Kunle Rasheed, Ayinde’s spokesman, to get his principal’s comment on the allegation, he said the Fuji star would not address Ayanlowo’s claim.
“He will not dignify the ex-drummer by responding to him,” Rasheed said.

Wizkid is trying to kill Afrobeats like he did with rap, says Terry Tha Rapman
Terry Tha Rapman, the Nigerian rapper, has slammed Wizkid, the Grammy-winning singer, saying he “wants to kill Afrobeats”.
Afrobeats is one of Africa’s biggest exports. The music genre began to experience widespread mainstream acclaim in the late 2010s.
Wizkid sparked controversy on social media recently after he asked the public not to label him an “Afrobeats artiste”.
The ‘Essence’ hitmaker said although he is African, he “makes all sorts of music”.
He explained that referring to every song as Afrobeats is why Nigerian artistes are only nominated in “African categories” of music awards like the Grammys.
His remarks, however, generated a wave of criticism on social media.
Joining the fray, Terry Tha Rapman took to X to voice his disapproval with Wizkid.
The rapper referenced Wizkid’s statement in 2022 where he declared rap “dead” and “boring”.
He also argued that the singer now wants to put the lid on the global progression of Afrobeats with his controversial statement.
He further said the ‘Ojuelegba’ hitmaker might set his sights on Highlife next.
“First rap, now Afrobeats. How many genres Wizkid wan kill? Highlife, run o!” Terry Tha Rapman wrote.
