Shakira Mebarak, the Colombian singer, has come through with ‘Don’t Wait Up’, her first English-language song in the past years.

Shakira's new single Don't Wait Up drops this Friday

The 44-year-old took to her social media in the early hours of Friday to announce the release of the highly hypnotising track to her numerous followers.

‘Don’t Wait Up’ is produced by Shak and Ian Kirkpatrick, American record producers.

The less than four-minute song comes on the heels of ‘Girl Like Me’, a collaborative work with Black Eyed Peas, which was released seven months ago.

It is understood that the song is her first all-English track since her 2017 recordings ‘When a Woman’ and ‘What We Said’ ft. MAGIC!,

In a chat with Zane Lowe show on Apple Music, the ‘Waka Waka’ crooner had expressed her nervousness on the reception of the song, noting that she’s been focusing on Spanish songs lately.

“I have to say, I’m very nervous because it’s my first English song in a long time because I have been focusing on Spanish songs only lately, but this song came about and I’m like, yeah, it’s time,” she had said.

Shakira made her recording debut under Sony Music Colombia at the age of 13. She started pulling the weight of success in Hispanic countries with albums like ‘Pies Descalzos’ in 1995 and ‘Donde Estan los Ladrones?’ in 1998.

The ‘Whenever Whenever’ single broke into the English-language market with her fifth album, ‘Laundry Service’ in 2001 and sold over 13 million copies worldwide.

The Colombian hitmaker got married to Gerard Pique, FC Barcelona defender, in 2011. The union has been blessed with two children.
