Cute Abiola is very stubborn, he’ll be punished for violating social media policy, says Navy

The Nigerian Navy has said that naval personnel and online comedian, Abdulgafar Ahmad, aka Cute Abiola, is currently being detained for posting a video of himself in military uniform on social media, an act which is in violation of the armed forces’ social media policy.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Suleiman Dahun, said, “There is an armed forces social media policy that was promulgated by the defense headquarters, and its principal regulation is that military personnel should not post photos or videos of themselves in uniform while engaging in personal or official activities.

Military personnel are also not allowed to make comments or share official military decisions, activities or operations on social media. They are also not allowed to forward materials on social media. Copies of the policy are available with the Director of Defense Information. It is not a restricted document, so it can be made available to anyone who needs it.”

Speaking on what Abiola did to warrant his punishment, Dahun said, “When we got the clip wherein he violated the policy, we asked him to come back to explain himself but he did not return. His commanding officer called him to explain himself concerning the video clip but he ignored his commander and didn’t return until his leave was over. When he returned, he was put in custody. If he had come back when he was called upon to explain himself, we would not be discussing this. We (the military) are not in an animal farm. We are human beings too but laws have to be obeyed.”

Concerning whether military personnel were allowed to be in the entertainment industry, a top source in the Navy, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “Entertainment is a form of business and even the civil service does not allow its officials to have a side business. Ahmad would be tried first and if found guilty, he would get his due punishment. People should stop taking Panadol for someone else’s headache.

The case will be handled administratively. It is an internal family matter, and it will be resolved. If a young person misbehaves, we have a way of correcting him in a gentle manner so that he would not repeat such or do worse. We understand that he is an entertainer with a large followership on social media and he can be useful to the military.

He is not a stubborn person but he was not supposed to show himself in military uniform on social media. If he had obeyed simple instructions, this wouldn’t have happened. He only exhibited juvenile delinquency. He would get his due punishment, (which would be) a light one, not something hard.

We recognise that he is an entertainer and he could even be given an opportunity to showcase his talent during (social) events of the Nigerian Navy or the Armed Forces. There are two major reasons we are uncomfortable with our personnel exhibiting themselves on social media, and one of them is for their personal safety and security.

“It is not advisable for military personnel to make their addresses and whereabouts known to the public because (through that), our adversaries can get information about the military. A person’s location can be known from the background of the pictures they post on social media. Even Boko Haram terrorists cover their background whenever they post videos of their activities, so that security agents would not be able to pinpoint their location.”

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao has debunked claims that she and actor Odunlade Adekola were romantically involved.

In a recent interview with Tribune Newspaper, the thespian was asked about her views regarding the speculations about her and her colleague. She clarified that Odunlade is like family to her and that it had always been that way before she attained stardom.

“Wherever you are, always make your impact known. Show people that you are there to support. I have always made myself available for Odunlade Adekola Films production even before I became who I am. I have been in the industry since 2003 and I didn’t blow till 2010/2011 when God used this man to push me out there. So whenever he has something to do, I just pick up my bag and I go. I don’t care what anybody wants to say.”

She also said that her support for him stems from the support he has shown her.

“He has always been in support of my career and I have always been in support of whatever he is doing, even with his family, I will be there. Those things are not online, and the fact that they don’t come on social media doesn’t mean they are not happening. People will always speculate but it doesn’t mean it is true,” she said.

“I am not the only one under Odunlade Adekola, but I am a family person. If you give me one naira, I will make sure I repay you with ten naira. That is my spirit. So when Odunlade is doing stuff, I am always there. So, to people, it looks like these people are dating…There was never a time he asked me out,” she concluded.

‘I deserve respect,’ Simi responds to jibes from Samklef, Brymo

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Simisola Kosoko, simply known as Simi, has responded to the recent jibes of Samuel Oguachuba, identified as Samklef, and Maverick singer Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, aka Brymo.

Simi spoke in an interview with media personnel, Angela Yee on her programme titled, ‘Way Up’ on Tuesday.

The wife of singer Adekunle Gold said she could not imagine the reasons behind Samklef and Brymo’s talks about nurturing feelings for her but claimed to be happy that her husband was always in her defence.

She described their actions as more comedy than anything else anyone could think.

When asked how she managed the jibes, Simi stated, “I don’t expect to be asked this. The thing is, I don’t even know what most of these people are like. I don’t know why they keep talking about me, but when you really look at what they are saying, you can’t even pick out anything. I am confused and feel like it doesn’t matter to me.

“My husband (Adekunle Gold) is speaking out for me as he would. I even told my friend that I didn’t feel anything about it because it didn’t impact me, and I didn’t have anything to hide.

“Like if you are going to post that you asked me out. So? And? Okay. And why? To me, the whole thing is more comedy than anything else.

“The only thing I will say though is that I saw a lot of people coming to my defence that why would he be talking to me like that. So, I’m just like, you don’t respect me because I’m married, but respect me because I deserve to be. Don’t do that to me,” she added.

Recently, a social media storm erupted when Samklef expressed his sentiments about singer Simi, sparking a heated exchange between him and Adekunle Gold.

In a series of now-deleted posts on Sunday, Samklef revealed that he harboured feelings for Simi in the past but chose not to pursue them to maintain a professional relationship. He then labelled Simi and fellow artist Ric Hassani as “the two most ungrateful artistes” he has ever worked with.

But Simi’s husband, Adekunle Gold, swiftly responded, defending his wife and urging Samklef to stop disrespecting her.

Adekunle Gold’s response escalated the confrontation as he admonished Samklef, stating, “Simi does not owe you shit, and it is about time you stopped calling her name every 3 market days. If anything, you owe me! Stop fooling around and act your age!”

Samklef retaliated with a comment suggesting his influence on Simi’s career, stating, “Dear Adekunle, I made your wife Simi cry.”

Also, not too long ago, Brymo also had his fair share of Adekunle’s outburst after he shared an audio clip in which he requested sex for a music collaboration from Simi, which she vehemently disapproved of.

Defending the audio, Brymo said his sexual advances towards Simi, describing it as “an artistic pursuit.”

His revelation, however, didn’t sit well with Adekunle Gold, who warned him to “stay away” from his wife and “stop disrespecting” his family.

Nasboi alleges death threat for criticising Wizkid’s remark on Don Jazzy

Nasboi, the Nigerian skit maker, has alleged that he received a death threat following his criticism of Wizkid’s recent remarks aimed at Don Jazzy.

In April, the ‘Ojuelegba’ hitmaker mocked Davido and Don Jazzy, the Mavin Records head honcho.

Wizkid called Don Jazzy an “influencer” while taunting Davido with a video of him on his knees, pleading and crying.

The singer’s post attracted criticism against him on social media.

In an interview with the Bahd And Boujee Podcast, Nasboi voiced his disapproval, stating that Wizkid was “wrong” to label Don Jazzy as an “influencer“.

During another chat with Cool FM, the skit maker claimed he was sent a death threat for “merely expressing my opinion”.

He also questioned why celebrities like him are restricted in expressing their opinions compared to ordinary people.

“It is like once you are a celebrity, you do not have an opinion. But you, who is a normal guy on the street, you have an opinion. You can decide to say you love Wizkid over Davido and that is okay. And me, who is a normal guy who is a celebrity, should not have the same privilege?” Nasboi asked.

“Because of what I said in my recent podcast interview. It is a simple question: Do you think Wizkid offended Don Jazzy with his statement? They asked me a direct question and I think yes. For calling him an influencer, I feel like the context was not okay. I would feel bad. And because of what I said about WizKid, somebody is in my DM saying I will die like my brother.”
