UNIJOS ASUU asks members to resume teaching after sit-at-home order
The University of Jos (UNIJOS) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended the sit-at-home order earlier issued.
According to NAN, in a statement on Thursday, Lazarus Maigoro, the varsity’s ASUU chairman, also directed its members to resume teaching.
The union in the university had, after its congress on November 4, asked its members to quit teaching over their withheld salaries.
Maigoro, who said the chapter’s resolution was subject to the decision of its national body, announced it had suspended the earlier directives.
”After receiving briefing at our National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of Nov. 7, our members resolved to vacate the sit or work from home decision,” the statement reads.
“We also reaffirm our commitment to the ability of our principal officers to handle the matter appropriately.
“This implies that our members are fully back to work on campus.”

JAMB sets to release 2024 UTME results
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has concluded plans to release the results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, is scheduled to hold a press briefing in Abuja on Monday regarding the release of the results and related matters, as indicated in a notice circulated to journalists in the capital city.
The notice was made available by the Board’s Head of Public Relations, Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday.
However, there are indications that results that would be released on Monday are for the candidates that participated in the UTME in the first few days, while others would be released after “due diligence” is completed.
The board earlier clarified that the decision to delay the release of the results for a few days was made to allow ample time for thorough scrutiny.
This measure, according to the examination body, was taken to guarantee the credibility and integrity of the results, ensuring there are no doubts or uncertainties, especially concerning issues such as impersonation, mixed biometrics, and other forms of malpractices.
In the past week, more than 1.9 million candidates enrolled for the 2024 UTME across over 700 Computer-Based Test centers nationwide.
The 2024 examination, which commenced on Friday, April 19, 2024, is expected to be concluded today.

JAMB student automatically fails as he mistakenly clicks submit at the beginning of exam
A Nigerian guy recalls how his friend accidentally pushed the submit button at the commencement of his UTME.
@princejoexclusive revealed that the UTME applicant made an expensive mistake after months of preparation.
“Based on true life story, I didn’t know if I should laugh at the guy or should cry for him,” @princejoexclusive captioned his post on TikTok.
@princejoexclusive made a video inspired by his friend’s JAMB UTME situation, which drove internet into a frenzy.
The boy’s error means that he would flunk the exam because no score could be calculated for him on any of the subjects.

4-year-old boy dies after being fed meat in Abuja school
Miguel Ovoke, a four-year-old pupil of Brickhall School in Kaura, Abuja, has died during feeding hours.
Ovoke was said to have been pronounced dead upon arrival at Excel Specialist Hospital, following complications during his lunch on Wednesday.
PUNCH reports that the hospital issued a death certificate stating the boy was brought in by his teachers around 11 am in an unconscious state.
The report, signed by Akinwande Ajayi, on behalf of the medical director, indicated that he was brought in “on account of aspiration on meat while feeding at school”.
The hospital said upon examination, the medical team found that “the boy’s pupils were fixed and dilated with a nonreactive response to light”.
Ovoke’s peripheral pulses were said to be “impalpable, blood pressure was unrecordable, and there was no cardiopulmonary activity or respiratory excursions, silent chest”.
The medical report indicated that all efforts to resuscitate him failed while concluding that he was “brought in dead”.
The sudden nature of Ovoke’s death has, however, prompted his parents to seek justice by contacting Deji Adeyanju, a human rights lawyer.
Brickhall School is said to be owned by Joy Emodi, a member of the 5th and 6th senate. She was appointed chairman of the senate committee on education.
Emodi also served as the special adviser on national assembly matters to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Efforts by TheCable Lifestyle to get the authorities of the school to comment did not materialise as of the time this report was filed.
