We’ll do separate autopsy on Mohbad, says Family

Published

on

The family of Ilerioluwa ‘Mohbad‘ Aloba says it will conduct separate autopsy test on the late singer.

Mohbad, 27, died on September 12, 2023. He was buried the next day in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Lagos state government had called for a coroner’s inquest to determine the cause of death following public outcry.

Testifying at the coroner’s inquest on Wednesday, Richard Somiari, the director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, said the autopsy result on Mohbad would be ready in less than a month.

However, according to PUNCH, Monisola Odumosu, head of the family’s legal counsel, said the family will apply to the state high court to conduct a separate autopsy and toxicology test.

The lawyer said the family of Mohbad feels the test being conducted by the Lagos government is “taking time” and also expresses concerns about the process by which the autopsy was conducted.

Odumosu further claimed that no medical expert represented the family at the point the autopsy was done.

“We filed an application at the Coroner’s Court on Wednesday to conduct our own autopsy and toxicology test, but the Magistrate said he did not have the power to approve that and told us to approach the High Court,” he said.

“We are already preparing our documents to go to the High Court so that we can ask for permission to organise our own autopsy and toxicology test. We have been planning this before now because we feel the government is too slow.

“They disclosed on a radio programme about three weeks ago that they were just about to send it to the US and that may take about 10 to 12 months, which is too long considering the fact that they had taken a sample from the body almost five months earlier. So why do we have to wait for so long?

“Secondly, when the autopsy was being conducted, representatives of the family should have been someone who is well-informed on the issue of the autopsy; an expert who would confirm if it was properly done. But they just called anyone.

“We are also planning to do it in the United States. Another reason why we took the decision was because, for instance, if someone is poisoned, at a point in time, it will evaporate, and no test can discover it. So, we don’t want to wait until that has happened before we think of doing our test and discover that nothing was found.”

Davido, the Afrobeats star, has come under intense criticism on social media for participating in the 2024 US presidential election.

Donald Trump defeated Vice-President Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party on Wednesday to win the US presidential election.

But on Tuesday, Davido shared a photo of himself holding a sticker that reads “I am a Georgian voter. I secured my vote”.

The singer expressed his enthusiasm as a “first-time voter in the US”.

However, many Nigerians have called him out for being “hypocritical,” alleging that he never voted in Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election

Some users argued that Davido’s sudden interest in voting in the US election seems like a bid for validation from Americans.

Others defended Davido’s right to vote in the US election, citing his citizenship as a valid reason. They argued that it was his civic duty to participate in the democratic process, regardless of his nationality.

“This guy is a hypocrite, you’ve never voted in any presidential election in Nigeria, but now you’re seeking validation from Americans,” a user wrote.

In another comment, a user added: “When it concerns Nigeria, you will never see them. The only time they are interested is when they can chase clout with it. Yeyebrities.”

Ufuoma McDermott narrates how excessive drug damaged her kidney

Published

By

Ufuoma McDermott, the Nollywood actress, has revealed the cause of her stage four kidney disease.

In a recent episode of the WithChude podcast, McDermott shared that her kidney disease was caused by prolonged misuse of strong painkillers due to migraines and headaches.

The actress revealed that she had avoided wearing glasses due to concerns about her appearance, leading to chronic headaches. She said to manage the pain, she took strong painkillers, unaware of the long-term consequences.

The 43-year-old said she found out about the cause after she and her brother were both diagnosed with kidney disease, sparking fears that it might be genetic.

“I really wish everyone would understand the importance of health. My brother was diagnosed late on stage 4 of kidney disease and he goes straight into dialysis and has complications. I was diagnosed earlier,” she said.

“So I have lived on medication for almost 12 years now. When my brother got diagnosed, I ran to my cardiologist. My parents were scared, thinking if this was genetic. We had to trace the kidney disease and we learned it was from drug abuse.

“I grew up with migraines, headaches, and eye aches, and I never wore my glasses because they made me look like a geek. I would take painkillers for my migraine. I took strong painkillers and not the ordinary painkillers because I wanted the pain to go away.”
