Police inspector on special duty commits su!cide in Niger State
A Police inspector, Bassey Asuquo, has reportedly committed su!cide in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.
At approximately 1:50 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Asuquo committed suicide while on special duty.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the officer was assigned to the area on a special assignment and was a member of the 28 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Umuahia, Abia State.
Prior to the incident, there had been reports of the officer acting strangely.
According to reports, his Unit Commander ordered the retrieval and storage of Inspector Asuquo’s rifle in the Sarkin-Pawa Police Division’s armory as a precaution.
Subsequent investigation, however, showed that the deceased officer had obtained a rifle that belonged to another officer who was sleeping at the time.
Asuquo allegedly took the gun and shot himself in the head, killing himself.
The General Hospital in Sarkin-Pawa received his remains, and Inspector Titus Bulus has been arrested for interrogation as part of a continuing investigation.
