Bandits abduct, kill Katsina LG health secretary
The Health Secretary of Malumfashi Local Government Area in Katsina State, Sa’adu Dantutture, has been killed after being abducted by suspected bandits.
Dantutture was taken from his hometown of Dantutture in Kafur Local Government Area after armed attackers reportedly invaded the community on Wednesday night.
An eyewitness, Kabir Ado Mai Unguwa, told Daily Trust that the attackers arrived at about 11pm, looted shops and abducted Dantutture. Trust Radio
According to the witness, the assailants killed the health official while leaving the community.
Dantutture had previously served as Director of Primary Healthcare in Funtua Local Government Area before becoming Health Secretary of Malumfashi LGA.
His body was subsequently returned to his hometown, where he was buried amid condolences from relatives, colleagues and community members. Trust Radio
His widow, Fatima Sa’adu, described him as a humble man committed to serving his community and appealed to authorities to intensify efforts to address insecurity.
Local government officials who visited the family also paid tribute to the deceased and called for stronger security measures.
During the attack, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade and local vigilantes reportedly confronted the assailants.
Three suspected bandits were reported killed during the encounter, while another reportedly fled and abandoned a weapon.
However, Daily Trust said those details, as well as reports that two other residents were abducted, had not been independently confirmed at the time of publication. Trust Radio
The Katsina State Police Command spokesperson also said he would verify the incident before providing an official response.
The killing comes amid continuing security challenges in parts of Katsina, where rural communities have experienced repeated incidents involving kidnapping, bandit attacks and displacement. Recent reporting has documented renewed attacks despite security operations and local peace initiatives in parts of the state.
