Having a male heir is not my priority — Aliko Dangote

Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has said having a male child to inherit his business empire is not a priority, expressing confidence in the ability of his three daughters to lead the family business.

Dangote made the remarks during an interview with Arise Television when asked about traditional expectations surrounding having a male heir, particularly given his Kano background.

The 69-year-old businessman said he believes people should accept circumstances they cannot control rather than force expectations about the gender of their children.

Dangote, who has three daughters — Halima, Fatima and Mariya — said having a son would not necessarily guarantee a better successor.

He expressed confidence in his daughters, saying he believes they are capable of building on his achievements and potentially taking the business to greater heights.

Asked whether he could see one of them eventually leading the Dangote Group, the billionaire answered in the affirmative.

He said he had observed all three daughters and could already identify leadership potential among them.

Dangote added that his daughters are genuinely interested in the family business and are participating because they want to, rather than because he forced them into it.

His comments come amid growing discussions about succession at Dangote Industries, one of Africa’s largest industrial conglomerates.
