The Nigerian Navy (NN) says it has not authorised any agent or individuals to solicit money from applicants in its recruitment exercise.

Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, the spokesperson of the navy, said the military outfit has been alerted to the activities of some individuals attempting to defraud applicants undergoing its basic training school (NNBTS) batch 35 recruitment exercise, taking place in Lagos, Rivers and Kaduna states.

He said in a statement on Thursday, that the fraudulent individuals have been swindling applicants of huge sums of money with promises of assured recruitment into the navy.

Ayo-Vaughan noted that the recruitment process for navy is “entirely free”.

“Pertinently, it is to be noted that recruitment into the NN from online registration to the end of the recruitment process is entirely free,” he said.

“The NN has not contracted or authorised any agent or individual to collect money or any incentive from applicants in order to help them in the recruitment process or placement as a successful candidate(s) for training.”

He added that applicants and the public are advised to report individuals soliciting money with the promise of guaranteed recruitment to the nearest naval unit or police station.
