Deji Adeyanju tackles police as Speed Darlington spends 2 weeks in detention
Deji Adeyanju, the human rights lawyer, has accused the Nigerian police of unlawfully detaining rapper Speed Darlington.
In a post via X on Monday, the lawyer alleged that the police have refused to release the rapper or take him before a judge to face trial.
“The @PoliceNG @PoliceNG_CRU have refused to release Speed Darlington or take him before a judge to face trial on the childish excuse that the last time they released him to me, he travelled to the US,” the post reads.
“This narrative is false because we told them he was going to US to return.”
Stan Alieke, Darlington’s legal representative, had earlier called out the police for “denying the rapper access to bail”.
Darlington was arrested on November 27 while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo state.
This is not the first time the rapper has been detained; he was arrested in October in Abuja. He was, however, released on bail after five days in police detention.
Adeyanju had alleged that Burna Boy, the Afrofusion star, was responsible for the rapper’s re-arrest.
Darlington had taunted Burna Boy over his affiliation with the embattled US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
He asked Burna Boy to explain how he won the Grammy award for his album ‘Twice As Tall’ — a project executive produced by Diddy. He claimed there was a sexual relationship between the duo.

Zinoleesky kicks as Lil Smart alleges death threat from him, Naira Marley
Lil Smart, the Nigerian dancer, has called out Naira Marley and Zinoleesky, claiming they are threatening his life.
In a series of posts on his Instastories, Lil Smart shared disturbing photos and videos, alleging that his life was in danger.
Smart also warned that if anything happens to him, the music stars should be held responsible.
“If anything happens to me (missing or killed), just know it is both Naira Marley and Zino” he wrote.
Zinoleesky however denied the allegations, claiming Lil Smart is “chasing clout” with his name.
He also threatened legal action against Lil Smart, adding that he should be prepared to prove the allegations in court.
“Stop using my name for clout chasing… [I] haven’t seen that n*gga in years… Sha get ready to prove everything in court!” Zinoleesky wrote.
Naira Marley is however yet to respond to the allegations.
The development comes more than a year after the death of rapper Mohbad. The fast-rising singer passed away on September 12, 2023 at the age of 27.

Kemi Afolabi to critics: How can Mercy Aigbe let her house burn to promote a film
Kemi Afolabi, the Nigerian actress, has spoken against the online attacks aimed toward Mercy Aigbe following a devastating fire incident at her Lagos home.
On Wednesday evening, Aigbe shared a video showing the aftermath of the fire which destroyed several properties worth millions of naira.
However, some social media users claimed that the disaster was a deliberate attempt by Aigbe to promote her upcoming movie ‘Thinline’. Others hurled abusive words at the actress, referencing her marriage.
Reacting to the comments in an Instagram video, an emotional Afolabi begged the public to stop trolling Aigbe.
The 46-year-old actress questioned why people would think her colleague would use such a tragic situation to promote her movie.
Afolabi also emphasised that Aigbe needs support, not online attacks.
“I am begging on behalf of Mercy… she did not send me and I know she is always a strong woman. I just feel so bad that she has to go through this. Please guys any support you can give her at this time. Can you stop trolling her please?” she said.
“I know we are are human and nobody is perfect. We already discussed about the house. We have people who have told her they would support her. It is a big deal. If you want to think about everything that has burnt down including her properties, the house itself, the filming equipment.
“I cannot believe people are still trolling her. This is unfair. All she needs is you support. Forget whatever you guys might have against her. How can someone allow her house to burn to promote a movie.”
