Michael Douglas reveals secret romance with Kathleen Turner during first marriage
Hollywood actor Michael Douglas has revealed that he and actress Kathleen Turner had a secret romantic relationship while filming the 1984 movie Romancing the Stone.
Douglas made the disclosure in his forthcoming memoir, One Helluva Ride, ending decades of public denials that anything romantic happened between the co-stars.
According to Douglas, he and Turner became attracted to each other while working closely together on the film and eventually began a relationship away from the set.
Douglas was still legally married to his first wife, Diandra Luker, at the time, although he said they were separated and experiencing serious problems in their marriage.
He said the relationship with Turner was kept secret even from people working closely with them, including director Robert Zemeckis and co-star Danny DeVito.
The romance eventually ended after Diandra travelled to the set with the couple’s son, Cameron.
Douglas said his wife spoke privately with Turner and made it clear that she still regarded Douglas as her husband. Turner subsequently decided she did not want to interfere in the marriage, according to Douglas’ account.
Douglas and Turner later continued working together, appearing in The Jewel of the Nile and The War of the Roses, and remained friends.
Turner has since responded to the revelation, expressing surprise at the renewed attention surrounding something that happened more than four decades ago and saying she still has affection for Douglas.
Douglas later divorced Diandra and married actress Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000.
His memoir is scheduled for release on October 6, 2026
