PDP And Presidency Engage In War Of Words Over Akpabio’s ‘Arrest’..You Won’t Like What They Called Buhari

Published

Yesterday, The Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday engaged in war of words over President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade following the grilling of former Akwa Ibom State Governor and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The opposition party while describing the anti-graft war as selective and a sham, said President Buhari is a dictator and urged him, if he is sincere, to go after former All Progressives Congress, APC governors, who had petitions against them for alleged corruption. In a quick counter,  the presidency declared that the PDP is a party that needs pity because it has run out of ideas.
Taking  a swipe at the APC-led government’s alleged persecution of Akpabio, the national leadership of the PDP said that the move is politically designed to weaken the PDP ahead of 2019 presidential election.
According to PDP, rather than allow the EFCC to go after former APC former governors who have been petitioned, they were being compensated with ministerial positions.
Addressing Journalists yesterday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh said President Buhari is still a dictator and his anti-corruption crusade  is a sham, hypocritical and double standard.
Metuh said:
“The PDP therefore states categorically that the orchestrated investigation of Senator Akpabio is politically motivated and targeted at weakening the PDP for 2019 elections, by virtue of his being the face of opposition in the National Assembly. It is also part of the fight by the Presidency to weaken the legislature as an arm of government and prevent it from effectively carrying out its constitutional role of checks and balances in a democracy.”
The EFCC had  on Friday and Saturday invited Akpabio to answer questions bordering on alleged corruption to the tune of N108 billion.
Metuh continued: “Whereas the PDP has over time restated its support for a credible, holistic fight against corruption, unfolding events have confirmed our position that this administration is only using the anti-corruption posture as a tool to witch-hunt PDP members and perceived political opponents of APC government.
“We are aware that having realized that Nigerians have seen through their propaganda, deceit and lies, as well as their ineptitude in handling governance, the APC government is now mortally afraid of the on-going rebuilding in the PDP to take over power in 2019, and is as such, applying every negative means to decimate our great party, including the relentless victimization of our key members.
“It is clearly manifest that the same dictatorial tendencies manifested during the military regime of 1984 is being presently applied in the polity in the attempt to discredit PDP members and weaken our great party ahead of 2019.
“The APC and its government have been busy denigrating the PDP and trying to appropriate our achievements, while at the same time blackmailing, hounding and harassing our elected members with the aim to cow and force them to leave the PDP and join their party.
“We have verifiable reports from our key members that agents of the APC have been approaching them to join the APC with threats to use the EFCC to victimize them should they refuse. The APC and its agents have been boasting that they have the powers to deal with or spare any person, depending on the party such person belongs to.
“This clearly explains why the so-called fight against corruption has been selective and focused against PDP members, despite counsel by stakeholders that it should be holistic and in accordance with the due process of the law.
“The best example of the curious nature of the war against corruption is the fact that former PDP governors and ministers are being hounded and arrested over apparently orchestrated petitions, while their APC counterparts, who have more damaging petitions are being nominated for ministerial positions.  Even other APC former governors who have on-going corruption cases in court are being rewarded with APC tickets for the forthcoming governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa.
“On the issue of Senator Godswill Akpabio, we invite Nigerians to note that in the three rich states of Akwa-Ibom, Rivers and Lagos states, there were petitions against their former governors. Whereas the former APC governors of Lagos and Rivers were rewarded with ministerial nominations, their Akwa Ibom PDP counterpart and the current Senate Minority Leader is being hounded by the EFCC.
“This is in spite of the common knowledge that Akwa-Ibom under  Senator Akpabio is arguably the least indebted state in Nigeria, and where the governor appropriately applied available resources to effectively transform the state. We challenge the APC to show Nigerians any of their governors  that matched the feats achieved in Akwa-Ibom under Senator Akpabio, whose only building in Uyo is uncompleted and being built with verifiable bank loans.
“As we speak, no APC member, despite the public petitions of corruption and squandering of state funds, has been invited or questioned by the EFCC. We challenge the EFCC, as an anti-corruption agency, to show Nigerians any member of the APC it has so far questioned, not to talk of being arrested since the emergence of this administration, despite petitions against them.
“Recall that even the case of former Adamawa state Governor, Murtala Nyako, started before the advent of the current administration but is now reportedly being worked on ostensibly to extricate APC members involved.
“This government has established itself as a hypocritical regime that accommodates corruption, profligacy and sleazes in government quarters while hoodwinking the people and witch-hunting PDP members.
“The hypocrisy of this administration came to the fore with the show of insensitivity to the mood of the nation as copiously demonstrated in Saturday’s ostentatious thanksgiving party (with hundreds of millions of naira spent) by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SFG,  Engr. Babachir David Lawal, at a time the people of the North East geo-political zone, where he hails from, are being ravaged by insurgency.
“Finally, we request Mr. President to end this dictatorial proclivity of selective anti-corruption war that has characterized the APC government.”
PDP needs help, has run out of ideas – Presidency
Reacting to the allegations, the Presidency said that the defeated PDP is a party to be pitied because the opposition party has run out of ideas.
Speaking to Vanguard, Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said that PDP is a broken record that should be discarded.
“The opposition seems to have run out of ideas so soon. Daily, we hear the same jaded, hackneyed allegations from them. I think they really are to be pitied. They need help.  A broken record that repeats itself ceaselessly is of no use than to be thrown away,” he said.

Award-winning Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has melted hearts online with a touching video of him warmly greeting Burna Boy’s mother, Bose Ogulu, at billionaire Tony Elumelu’s All-White Christmas party.

In a video circulating online, the 2025 Grammy nominee was captured exchanging pleasantries with Burna Boy’s mother at Tony Elumelu’s All-White Christmas party.

In the viral clip, Bose Ogulu was seen sitting with her daughter as Davido approached her to greet her.

The sweet gesture has been widely praised by fans, who commended the singer for his respect and maturity.

An X user, Iwunze (who identifies as #IwunzeJC), wrote, “Normally, Davido has no problem. He is a free-spirited man. He loves and respects mothers a lot, regardless. And that is one of the reasons I like him.”

Another user, Ada (using the username #AdaOkenwa1), wrote, “I don’t know who raised Davido, but all I can say is thank you. You did a great job.”

FindingSolace, who tweets anonymously as #lifeinsolace, wrote, “Let love lead. It costs more to hate than to love. More of this in this space.”

Another user, OneGirlie_vi, who tweets anonymously, wrote, “I love the fact that his beautiful mother doesn’t have hate in her mind like her son. All love.”

Uncle Floyd, who identifies as #MRFLOYD_247, wrote, “That’s the way forward… no matter the disagreement between you and your guy, keep the kids, siblings, and mums out of it. The spirit of love and a mother can’t be compared; she will always love everyone. A mother and also manager.
She loves progressive kids.”

K.A.Y.O.D.E, who identifies as #Dhavidtips, wrote, “A mother is always a source of love and strength.”

The rivalry between Davido and Burna Boy is well-known, with the two music giants frequently exchanging jabs over the years.

In July, Burna Boy shaded Davido after a fan suggested he follow Davido’s example and start a family.

Burna dismissed the comment, referencing Davido’s challenges with one of his baby mamas. When another fan criticised him for the dig, Burna noted how the person hadn’t used the best example.

Their feud reignited last year when Davido referred to Burna Boy as an “upcoming artist” in an interview, emphasizing that he and Wizkid paved the way for younger stars like Burna Boy, Mayorkun, and Asake.

Odumodublvck, the Nigerian rapper, has recalled how Don Jazzy, the music producer, gave him $10,000 during one of their meetings.

In a recent interview on Beat 97.9FM, the rapper, whose real name is Tochukwu Ojogwu, said he had reached out to Don Jazzy to collaborate on his song ‘Asampete’.

The 31-year-old said he felt that the music producer’s vocals were needed to complete the track.

Odumodublvck said during his visit to Don Jazzy’s residence, he was given the money and told that he could keep all the royalties from the song.

He added that Don Jazzy even offered to be featured as an artiste on the track.

“Don Jazzy is the king of Afrobeats. But ask anybody there is nobody who is more original than Don Jazzy. Don Jazzy is an OG. Respect to my brothers Burna, Wiz, Olamide, Dave all of us used to look up to him. Like the way we used to look up to them — Wizkid and David, they used to look up to him,” he said.

“…I just hit him up. The first day we did ‘Asampere’, I recorded a vocal that sounded like Don Jazzy’s vocal and I was like Don Jazzy should do it.

“When I went to meet him, he gave me a lot of money. I have to put it out there. I tell them everywhere I go. He gave me $10,000 cash. Don no be for mouth. He still gave me vocals.

“He now told me that I can keep all the royalties and I can keep him as a featured artiste. That day, they still cooked food for me to eat. They gave me turkey. The line for ‘turkey’ was already put in the song and that was God.”
