Gov Wike blast Amaechi, says he needs urgent psychiatric evaluation

Published

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi was a failed governor who needs urgent psychiatric evaluation and treatment in apparent reaction to Amaechi’s appearance in a radio programme in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Wike said Amaechi is monstrously corrupt; pointing out that after his litigation on his indictment by the judicial Commission of Inquiry, his (Amaechi’s) prosecution over the embezzlement of Rivers resources will take place.
Speaking at the PDP Rivers West Senatorial District Campaign rally at Ahoada on Saturday, Wike said that only a man with psychiatric disorder will compare his failed eight years in office to just eight months of the new administration.

He said the former governor failed in his eight years as the state chief executive. According to him, Amaechi lacks proper parental upbringing hence his desperation in the political arena.
Wike said that the APC has refused to campaign for the rerun elections because they are relying on the military and security forces to rig.

“He is a psychiatric patient who was at the radio station abusing people who are old enough to be his father’s/mothers simply because his party lost at the Supreme Court.

“We will defeat Amaechi again and again. No matter the deployed army to Rivers State, the PDP will win all the seats “.

The governor claimed that Amaechi during his radio talk confessed that the military has been handed over to him to rig elections in the state. He added that the plot would fail woefully as the Rivers people will defend their mandate.
He pointed out that Amaechi’s personal friend Mr Tosin Ajayi was posted to Rivers State as DSS director with the evil objective of creating the environment of rigging.

“Only yesterday, I intercepted the communication of the DSS director and the Brigade commander where they were planning on the ways of rigging the election alongside Amaechi. That plot has failed.

“Amaechi lacks sound parental upbringing. He has vindicated us when he said that he has been given the army to rig the rerun elections. I know the Chief of Army staff very well. He should not allow a psychiatric patient to use the Army to rig.

“Is Amaechi now the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces that he talks about deploying soldiers? Our people will rise up to defend their votes. They will make the needed sacrifices their votes”, Governor Wike said.

He reminded the people that on May 27, 2015, Amaechi made a statement that his (Wike) administration will be unable to pay salaries and execute projects. He said he has confounded through the execution of pro-people projects across the state, payment of salaries and pensions.
He called on the people of Rivers West Senatorial District to vote overwhelmingly for the PDP for uniformed development to be entrenched in the state.
The Governor said that development of the communities rests with his administration, pointing out that he has discharged his responsibility faithfully.
Wike said no matter the time it takes, Amaechi will face trial for stealing Rivers resources.

“If President Muhammadu Buhari visits Amaechi’s house in Asokoro, he will never allow him to come into Presidential Villa. After the case initiated by Amaechi over his indictment, he will face justice for embezzling state funds”

Also speaking, PDP Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus, described the former governor as a pathetic liar who mismanaged resources of the state.

“Amaechi needs urgent proper psychiatric evaluation and treatment. We call on Dr Parker to treat the former governor”.

He said Amaechi’s appearance on different radio stations is merely an avenue to create crisis in the state.

“No amount of blackmail will pull down the administration of Governor Wike, adding that, Amaechi was a failed governor “.

The Rivers North West Senatorial District Campaign rally attracted PDP faithful from the eight local government areas of the district.
Former Governor Amaechi had in a radio programme in Port Harcourt, today, like always, has said that there three things you tell him without he giving you a fight include:”You don’t accuse me of corruption, because I am not corrupt, you don’t abuse my wife and you don’t abuse my Mother. The last two persons are vulnerable and so need to protected. You go to this areas I fight back.”
He said the Justice George Omereji led panel of inquiry set by Governor Wike never indicted him. ” But when the Government came out with a White Paper, they smuggled an indictment. We are waiting for them in court,”Amaechi said.

Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo, has ordered a freeze of all bank accounts belonging to the state government.

Okpebholo issued the directive on Thursday through Fred Itua, chief press secretary to the governor.

He asked commercial banks, ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to immediately comply with the order or face severe consequences.

“All bank accounts in all the commercial banks have been frozen. Commercial banks must comply with the order and ensure that not a dime is taken out of the coffers of Government until further notice,” the statement reads.

“Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies must comply with this order without further delays.

“After the necessary investigations and reconciliations, the Governor will do the needful and decide on the way forward. For now, this order stands.”

Okpebholo also directed relevant agencies to reverse the naming of the ministry of roads and bridges to the ministry of works — a nomenclature changed during the Godwin Obaseki administration.

“It is funny how you can call a Government institution Ministry of Roads and Bridges,” the statement reads.

“Ironically, no single bridge was built by the same administration. Not even a pedestrian bridge

“In the coming days, we will look at more actions taken by the previous administration and more decisions will be taken that will be done in the best interest of the state.”

The development comes days after Okpebholo took over the reins of power in Edo.

The governor had earlier ordered an indefinite suspension of revenue collection in the state — including at motor parks.

NESREA seals two facilities in FCT, Kogi for violating environmental regulations

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed two facilities in Abuja and Kogi for breaching environmental laws.

The facilities are Geld Construction Limited, located in Abaji, FCT, and Arno Energy, a charcoal production company in Okaba, Kogi.

In a statement on Wednesday, Amaka Ejiofor, NESREA’s spokesperson, said the companies were sealed for failure to conduct their environmental impact assessment (EIA).

Ejiofor noted that the facilities also failed to provide important environmental documents, including an air quality permit, an environmental audit report, and a waste management permit, necessary for maintaining standards in companies.

“The EIA provides guidance on mitigating the negative impact of a facility’s operations on the environment,” the statement reads.

“Their failure to do so led to the closure of the facilities to save human health and the environment.”

The NESREA’s spokesperson added that the facilities were also operating in an environmentally harmful manner, resulting in negative impacts on the host communities and the environment.

She said procedural measures, including the issuance of compliance notices, had been taken to force the facilities to address and rectify their violations.

Innocent Barikor, the director-general of NESREA, urged industry operators to ensure their activities and operations follow the stipulations of the law.
