The long time rift between Dede Mabiaku and the Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s Family has taken a new turn.

During the just concluded Felabration 2016, Daddy Showkey during his performance asked that Dede Mabuike be invited to Felabration, This requested however didn’t go down well with Femi Kuti who mentioned that he would have been offended if the request wasn’t made during Felabration.

Femi however went on to react to Showkey’s statement saying:

‘he claims he’s Fela’s son but anytime we do anything for Fela, he never shows up. We don’t pay anybody to come for Felabration, we just mention Fela’s name and artiste turn up because of their love for Fela. So anybody we wan shakara us make he go die.‘

Dede Mabiaku, a protege of the Afrobeat Fela who was disowned by his own parents for being a part of Fela’s movement is about the only musician that has never performed at Felabration since it’s inception.

Dede in an interview in September 2016 stated that:

That I have not been invited by them to perform at the Felabration, it should be your duty to ask them how and why.’

‘The question is why Dede has not been performing at the shrine at the Felabration. Have you asked Femi and Yeni? You shouldn’t ask Dede, you should ask the source. So you nor go ask me about another person thing, you go ask the person, why?’
