Ben Carson’s OUT For Cabinet Position In Trump Administration

Dr. Ben Carson, once a top-tier GOP Presidential candidate, has dropped out of the running for a cabinet position in the upcoming Trump Administration.

The doctor and retired neurosurgeon was a rival of Trump’s during the GOP primary. But he was one of the first to endorse Trump when he dropped out.

He was being considered for either Secretary of Education of Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

But a source close to Carson told Fox News that he has turned down being considered for a cabinet position.

Carson’s decline came as former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers announced he was leaving the Trump transition team as the national security senior adviser.

“I look forward to continuing to provide advice and counsel as needed to the incoming Trump administration as they work to make America great again,” Rogers said in a statement Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Trump described Carson as a “brilliant physician” and said he hoped Carson “will be very much involved with my administration,”

But Business Manager and close personal friend to Carson, Armstrong Williams said Carson would only advise the president-elect unofficially.

Dr. Carson was never offered a specific position, but everything was open to him,” Williams told The Hill in a phone call.

“Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he’s never run a federal agency. The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency.”

Carson has been looking for ways to be influential outside of government, including his My Faith Votes, a group that looks to motivate Christian voters.
