“It is the height of insult to the Igbo sensibility for him to think that putting up this charade from the Holy Land will fool Ndi Igbo another round. If he is broke and wants to use this latest performance to finance his drug addled life he should have a rethink and look for honest work to pay his own bills. “We strongly believe that his desperation for money has made him team up with those that are out to frustrate the Igbo agenda and interest. We say this because it is curious that Kanu had hidden for so long as a common criminal only for him to turn up at a time when the political fortunes of the South East are improving with the nomination of one of our own, Mr. Peter Obi as a Vice Presidential candidate in next year’s election. “SERG hereby categorically place Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB and any miscreant that buys into the poisonous ideology they promote that not only will election hold in the South-East but that people will also come out to exercise their voting rights without being molested. “Igbo will mobilize to ensure this chance is not lost, certainly not in this lifetime. On the other hand, at the end of the General Elections, which would hold everywhere in a united Nigeria, Kanu would have proven beyond doubt that he is a liar and an utter symbol of falsehood that is at best treated as a pariah.” SERG further stressed that Igbo youths should be warned by this development, adding that nothing to be gained from supporting terrorist and separatist ideologies as the only region to have allowed that in the country is today full of regrets. He added, “We should rather continue to support the federal government, irrespective of the ethnic group of the person that occupies the office. Igbo youths, leaders and organizations must also apologize to the Nigerian Army that was wrongly accused of killing Kanu when in reality the coward ran away from the country on his volition.”

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has described the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed as the “High Priest of the All Progressives Congress cult of fake news. ”

Abubakar said this in reaction to allegation by Mohammed that the international media organisations had questioned his emergence as the presidential candidate of the PDP.

A statement by Atiku’s Presidential Campaign Organisation insisted that Mohammed was an “unreliable” liar.
The statement said: “The attention of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation has been drawn to a sponsored news story on Vanguard newspapers of Saturday October 20, 2018, with the headline: ‘2019: International media query emergence of Atiku over suspicious source of wealth.’

“In the said report, not one international media was quoted. Rather, it was the notoriously dishonest All Progressives Congress minister of information, Lai Mohammed, who was quoted alleging that that was what the international media told him.

“How anyone would take the word of a confirmed liar, as Lai Mohammed, for the Gospel truth is beyond us.

“To show you how unreliable Lai Mohammed is, at the lecture in the Royal Institute for International Affairs (Chatham House) with the topic, ‘Nigeria’s National Unity: Towards Participation and Shared Values,’ which was his main reason for going to London, Lai Mohammed said: ‘We do not need to do anything extra because we have delivered on all our promises and Nigerians are quite happy and satisfied with the government.’

“How the minister of information of a government that has turned Nigeria into the world headquarters for extreme poverty can say that is beyond imagination. Is Mr. Mohammed claiming that his party promised and delivered poverty and Nigerians are satisfied with this world record poverty?
“If Lai Mohammed can lie openly at Chatham House in front of the international press and diplomatic corps, is it a big thing for him to lie about his accounts with the international media?

“The true position of things is that ever since the emergence of His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party after the elective congress of the party on October 6-7, the international media has been agog with praise for Mr. Abubakar and hope for a new dawn in Nigeria.

“Reuters praised Atiku as having ‘long enjoyed support from the business elite in Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos for his conservative-capitalist ideals’. They went on to further give him kudos for his record in office by saying ‘as vice president in a PDP administration from 1999-2007, (he) implemented a programme of liberalisation in areas including the telecoms sector.’

“The number one policy magazine in the world, The Economist, described His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, ‘as a business-friendly candidate who will get Nigeria’s economy going.’

“Not one single international paper, magazine, TV station or website has had anything negative to say about the Waziri Adamawa’s emergence. That lie only exists in the fallacious imagination of Lai Mohammed.

“On the contrary, international media and even reputable global financial institutions have predicted doom for Nigeria should Muhammadu Buhari be re-elected.

“According to one of the world’s largest banks, HSBC, ‘a second term for Mr Buhari however raises the risk of limited economic progress and further fiscal deterioration, prolonging the stagnation of his first term, particularly if there is no move towards completing reform of the exchange rate system or fiscal adjustments that diversify government revenues away from oil.’

“On its own part, The Economist wrote off the Buhari administration as a failure, saying: ‘The 2019 elections will be a close contest between the ruling APC and the PDP. We expect the PDP presidential candidate to win.’

“Nigerians can no longer be hoodwinked by the Orwellian propaganda that is the signature of this administration.

“The 2019 presidential election will be determined by Nigerian voters and not by political soothsayers. Nigerians will make a determination whether to settle for incompetence versus competence; cluelessness versus knowhow; joblessness versus employment; restiveness versus engagement; divisiveness versus unity; nepotism versus merit and bigotry versus inclusiveness.”

N110bn fraud: Court gives Yahaya Bello more time to respond to summons

A federal capital territory (FCT) high court in Maitama has extended the time for Yahaya Bello, former Kogi governor, to respond to the public summons issued against him.

On October 3, Maryanne Anenih, presiding judge, ordered Bello to appear before the court on October 24 for arraignment on a 16-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bello was however absent at the court session on October 24.

The court had then adjourned to November 14 for Bello to respond to the summons.

However, the former governor did not show up in court on Thursday.

Jamiu Agoro, counsel for the EFCC, said the order of the court issued on October 3 had not elapsed since the commission effected service on October 18.

Consequently, Agoro prayed the court for an adjournment and an extension of time for Bello to appear.

“In that wise, we feel it will not be appropriate for us to take proceedings while that 30 days is still running. So we have discussed and agreed to come back on the 27th day of November 2024, my lord,” he said.

The EFCC also told the court that Bello’s co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, two officials of the Kogi state government, have been granted administrative bail.

Counsel for the 2nd and 3rd defendants confirmed the administrative bail of their clients. They also did not oppose the request for adjournment and extension of time.

After listening to all counsels, the judge granted the EFCC’s application for adjournment and extension of time.

The judge also ordered that hearing notice should be served on Bello at his last known address and should be pasted on conspicuous places around the court.

The charge against the defendants borders on alleged criminal breach of trust to the tune of N110,446,470,089, contrary to sections 96 and 311 of the Penal Code Law Cap.89, Laws of Northern Nigeria, 1963, and punishable under section 312 of the same law.

Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP), has banned security aides and escorts from accompanying VIPs into polling booths and collation centres during the governorship election in Ondo.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, police spokesperson, said Egbetokun has implemented “comprehensive security measures” to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible election.

Egbetokun named Sylvester Alabi, deputy inspector-general, as the coordinating DIG for the election to oversee the implementation of security strategies and to maintain law and order throughout the electoral period.

The IGP also named Bennett Igweh, an assistant inspector-general, and Tunji Disu, a commissioner of police, as AIG and CP elections respectively.

Egbetokun said all movements on roads, waterways and other means of transportation are restricted from 6am to 6pm in the state on Saturday except for those on essential services, such as ambulances, media officials, and fire service personnel.

“Furthermore, security aides and escorts attached to VIPs are banned from accompanying VIPs to polling booths and collation centres to prevent disruptions,” the statement reads.

“Unauthorized security personnel and quasi-security agencies will not be permitted to operate during the election, and a strict ban on using sirens by unauthorized vehicles will be enforced.

“Special consideration will also be extended to individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and those facing mobility challenges to ensure that polling stations remain accessible.

“Designated election lines have been established for inquiries and reporting incidents. These lines will be publicized as soon as possible.”

The IGP said the police will work with the military and other security agencies to ensure the election is conducted fairly and peacefully.

Okpebholo orders freezing of ALL Edo government accounts

Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo, has ordered a freeze of all bank accounts belonging to the state government.

Okpebholo issued the directive on Thursday through Fred Itua, chief press secretary to the governor.

He asked commercial banks, ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to immediately comply with the order or face severe consequences.

“All bank accounts in all the commercial banks have been frozen. Commercial banks must comply with the order and ensure that not a dime is taken out of the coffers of Government until further notice,” the statement reads.

“Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies must comply with this order without further delays.

“After the necessary investigations and reconciliations, the Governor will do the needful and decide on the way forward. For now, this order stands.”

Okpebholo also directed relevant agencies to reverse the naming of the ministry of roads and bridges to the ministry of works — a nomenclature changed during the Godwin Obaseki administration.

“It is funny how you can call a Government institution Ministry of Roads and Bridges,” the statement reads.

“Ironically, no single bridge was built by the same administration. Not even a pedestrian bridge

“In the coming days, we will look at more actions taken by the previous administration and more decisions will be taken that will be done in the best interest of the state.”

The development comes days after Okpebholo took over the reins of power in Edo.

The governor had earlier ordered an indefinite suspension of revenue collection in the state — including at motor parks.
