Election Postponement: ADC Demands Resignation Of Buhari, Yakubu
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to resign immediately following the postponement of the elections.
We had reported that INEC postponed the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for February 16 over logistic problems.
The Chairman of INEC announced this following an emergency meeting of the Commission with other stakeholders that lasted for several hours.
According to Yakubu, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, 23 February.
The commission also shifted governorship, State Assembly and Federal Capital Territory council polls from March 2 to March 9.
Thereafter, the INEC Chairman met key stakeholders by 2pm on Saturday at the Abuja International Conference centre to address them on this development.
Reacting to the postponement, the opposition ADC told Buhari and Yakubu to leave their offices for embarrassing Nigeria with the postponement of the poll.
National Chairman of the ADC, Ralphs Nwosu, said this in a statement on Saturday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yemi Kolapo.
He said the postponement was a plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress to rig the election because the party was aware of the rejection of its candidate, Buhari, due to the failure of his government to perform in over three years
