2019 Glo sponsored Ojude Oba Festival holds today
All is now set for the Glo sponsored 2019 Ojude Oba Festival which formally kicked off Monday with the “Otunba Day” during which three prominent citizens including the Otunba Apesin of Ijebuland and Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga were honoured.
The two other honourees were former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Chairman, First City Monument Bank, Otunba Subomi Balogun.
Already, Ijebu Ode is agog with gaily dressed guests from all over the world who have come to witness the spectacle of the playing of homage by over fifty age groups and Balogun groups to the Alayeluwa, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
The town, Ijebu Ode, is awash with colourful posters and banners blazing goodwill messages to all and sundry with houses repainted in bright colours and colourful tents dotting spots in the ancient town where various groups will converge to entertain themselves and guests after the parade.
“Ojude Oba” Festival is the rallying point for all Ijebu at home and in the diaspora to discuss and design programmes that will develop Ijebuland and improve the welfare of its people. The theme for this year’s festival is “Ojude Oba: The Uniqueness of the Ijebu Nation”.
The Festival is a celebration of the cultural heritage and tradition of the people of Ijebuland, their unique cuisines and preferences. It is characterized by dances, cultural displays, competition and all forms of entertainment.
Warlord families from Ijebuland popularly called “Balogun” dressed to the nines in various colourful attires will parade and display mock wars and equestrian stunts interspersed with sporadic gunshots.
Globacom will give handsome gifts to the best three Balogun families and best three male and female age groups commonly called “regberegbe”.
Dignitaries expected at the Festival include the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, pool betting magnate, Chief Adebutu Kessington who is the Special Guest and the Alaafin of Oyo, Ikubabayeye Oba Lamidi Adeyemi amongst many other captains of industry, technocrats, academicians and business tycoons.
Globacom in a statement announced that the Musical Show which wraps up the Festival would be headlined by Fuji crooner and lyricist, Abass Obesere and Afro pop, Hip hop and Dancehall sensation, Keshinro Ololade popularly called Lil’Kesh while attendees will savour rib tickling comedy courtesy DJ Bash.
Till date, Lil Kesh has released several chart-topping songs like “Shoki”, “Lyrically”,’Able God’, ‘Gbese’, ‘Efejoku’, ‘Rora’, ‘Ibile’, ‘Is it because I love you?’, ‘Bend down select’, ‘Nkan Nbe’ and ‘Flenjo’ amongst others. Born on March 14, 1995, Lil’Kesh, who started out with YBNL (Yahoo Boy No Laptop) Nation record label, currently has his own record label YAGI, an acronym for “Young and Getting It”. The Musical Show will hold at the Equity Hotel, Ijebu Ode today at 8pm.
