Gunmen kill district head, APC chairman, 25 others in Katsina, Oyo, Borno
Armed bandits have reportedly killed at least 27 people in different attacks across the country, including a district head, injuring many others and stole thousands of livestock.
Yesterday, armed bandits shot dead the district head of Yantumaki, Abubakar Atiku, in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Residents said the armed men spent at least two hours at the Yantumaki community during a downpour, trailing their prime target, the district head, Mr Atiku, until he fell to their bullets a few minutes to midnight.
A source added that a palace guard sustained an injury during the attack. The bandits’ mission was, allegedly, to assassinate the traditional ruler as they did not hurt anyone, apart from the palace guard, who was obviously hit by stray bullets, a source said, asking not to be named for security reasons.
APC chairman killed
Also, in another separate attack, gunmen also killed the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chairman of Batsari Local Government Area, Abdulhamid Sani, following alleged inability of the deceased to secure the release of one arrested bandit.
An eye-witness, Sadiq Hasaan, said the men headed with the stolen livestock towards other villages in the Batsari local government area, and thousands of residents had fled their homes.
The late APC chairman was a member, reconciliation committee working to ensure peaceful coexistence between Fulani residents, who are predominantly living in the bush and Hausa communities, who live in the town.
Residents said the APC chairman was killed by a faction of unrepentant armed men, who accused him of failure to secure the release of one of them arrested by the security agents, weeks ago.
The police spokesperson in Katsina, Gambo Isah, confirmed the incidents.
6 killed, others injured in Borno Boko Haram attacks
Six people, including a female suicide bomber, were reportedly killed in separate attacks on communities of Kwabula and Kondori villages of Askira-Uba and Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno state
Three people were, yesterday, confirmed killed in Kondori village of Konduga Local Government Area of the state by suspected terrorists, leaving scores injured, while others fled into Jakana town and Maiduguri for safety.
Kondori is about 30km from Maiduguri, the state capital and a stone throw to Jakana town located on the busy Maiduguri-Damaturi-Kano road.
It was gathered from sources that “on May 30, 2020, at 11:45 pm armed terrorists suspected to be from Shekau’s faction stormed Kwabula village of Askira-Uba LGA.
“The terrorists came in large number with four gun trucks, enclosed the main entrance of the village and fired at the heart of the village.
“During the attack, many residents fled into surrounding mountains for safety, unfortunately, two civilians were killed and many others sustained injuries without confrontation.”
In Kwabula, two civilians were killed when suspected members of Boko Haram sect invaded the village, weekend, just as a female suicide bomber infiltrated part of Konduga Local Government Area and detonated her Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, killing herself and injured three civilians.
Secretary of the Local Government, Alhaji Mai Bukar, who confirmed the two incidents to our correspondent on phone, yesterday, said: “It is unfortunate that communities in my local government area came under Boko Haram attacks.”
3 killed as gunmen invade three villages in Oyo
Also, the Oyo State Police Command, yesterday, confirmed the killing of three people by gunmen that invaded three villages in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.
While confirming the attack, the Oyo State Public Relations Officer, SP Gbenga Fadeyi, said: “Yes, the hoodlums attacked a village, Olanla, and shot three men. Two of the suspects have been arrested while police detectives have been dispatched to the village to get other suspects arrested.”
According to sources, the hoodlums invaded Ikereku, Pade, Olanla and Babalola villages with dangerous weapons in the early hours of yesterday.
A lawmaker representing one of the constituencies in Akinyele said three people were killed in his constituency, wards 1 and 2.
It was further gathered that the hoodlums invaded the farmlands of their victims and shot them dead.
The remains of the victims were said to have been picked from a surrounding bush.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah dies at 52
The Senator representing Anambra South in the National Assembly, Ifeanyi Ubah, is dead.
Ubah, who was the Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil, was said to have died in a hotel in London, the United Kingdom, on Saturday.
He would have been 53 on September 3.
Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, confirmed Ubah’s death to our correspondent on Saturday.
He said, “It’s confirmed, but I am sending an official statement soon.”
Ubah, who was re-elected into the 10th Senate under the Young Peoples Party, had last year defected to the All Progressive Congress.
In September 2022, Ubah escaped assassination when he was attacked by gunmen on his way to Nnewi in Enugwu-Ukwu in Anambra State.

JUST IN: Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun joins ancestors at 81
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun has joined his ancestors after a brief illness.
He joined his ancestors at the age of 81.
It was gathered that the late monarch was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning having stayed indoor throughout Tuesday on account of slight malaria fever, though, he was hail and hearty on Monday during which he personally received few guests that paid him congratulatory visits on his second year anniversary on that day.
Making this announcement was the Baba-Kekere Olubadan and his younger brother, Dr Kola Balogun in a statement by the Personal Assistant (Media) to the late monarch, Oladele Ogunsola.
According to the statement, Dr. Balogun disclosed that Oba Balogun would be buried at his Aliiwo ancestral home by 4.00pm on Friday according to Islamic rites just as he said that the State Governor Seyi Makinde, though already verbally informed, would be formally notified early in the morning.
The late Olubadan was the first most educated to have emerged as Ibadan monarch, a British trained P.hd holder, a former university lecturer, former member of management staff of Shell British Petroleum, former gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Nigeria People’s Party, NPP, former Senator and a successful business man.
His last official outing was the Olubadan Advisory Council’s meeting which he presided over last Saturday where the decision to derobed Mogaji Akinsola, Olawale Oladoja was taken.
He however, on Tuesday instructed the Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade to midwife a small committee to deliberate on last Friday’s decision on what should be the position of Ibadan Zone in the proposed newly reconstituted Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
The decision of the small committee was earlier on Thursday ratified by the Olubadan Advisory Council at a meeting presided over by Otun Olubadan and the former governor of Oyo State, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja and was to be taken to the late Oba Balogun for his signature Friday morning so as to meet the deadline for submission to the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters later in the day.
The late Olubadan is survived by wives, children and grandchildren.
Announcing the passage of the monarch, Governor Makinde, in a statement, stated that Olubadan, who joined his ancestors late Thursday evening at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, described him as an epitome of royal excellence and a great achiever, who made great marks on Ibadanland in just a little over two years of his reign.
He expressed his condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council and the people of Ibadanland and Oyo State, praying to God to grant repose to the soul of the deceased monarch.
Makinde said: “With total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing unto glory of our father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“A mighty Iroko has fallen; Oba Dr. Balogun has joined the ancestors.
“In Kabiyesi, Ibadanland had a cosmopolitan and well-experienced Olubadan, who made indelible marks on the sands of history and achieved greatly within a short while.
“On behalf of the Government and good People of Oyo State, I condole with the immediate family of the Oba Dr. Balogun, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council and the people of Ibadanland.
“It is my prayer that God grants repose to the soul of our late monarch.”
