Lady Explains Why She Dumped Her Baby After Giving Birth

Dupe Alabi, a single mum of five has opened up on why she gave birth to her fifth child and decided to dump the baby immediately after birth.

In a chat with BBC Youruba, Dupe who hails from Ogbomosho in Oyo state and spoke in Yoruba, said many years ago she got “married’ to her first husband, a carpenter. They got into a fight and went their separate ways when their child turned seven.

Dupe said she moved out of his house to Ogbomosho where she started working at a canteen. There she met her second husband whom she had two children for, a boy and a girl. According to her, while she was married to her second husband, her first husband kept on coming to her, insisting she must return to him but she refused since she was married to another man now.

Dupe said her second husband got angry as people kept informing him that her first husband was threatening to take her back. She said her second husband got jealous and then moved out of their house, leaving her with three children and no source of income.

Dupe said she had to return to her parents house with her three children and began to hawk some items just to eke a living. She said her second husband refused providing money for the upkeep of their children.

She said one day, her first husband called her and asked her to return to his house. She told him that she had no where to send her two children to since she is no longer with their father. She said her first husband then asked her not to worry and promised to take care of all three children.

Dupe said she returned to him and had another child for him. She said trouble started when he started demanding that she returns the second husband’s children to him. When the demand became too much, she moved out of his house with her four children.

One and a half years later, the man called and asked her to come collect some money for the upkeep of his children. She went and they had sex which resulted in her fifth pregnancy. When she realised she was pregnant, she reached out to him and he denied owning the pregnancy.

Dupe said this forced her to hide her pregnancy and decided to dump the baby when she gives birth.
