Lawmakers Panic As Rat Interrupts Parliament Session (Video)
There was a mild drama yesterday when members of Andalusia’s regional parliament in Spain spotted a rat during a plenary session.
The rodent had appeared under the desks used by members of far-right Vox and liberal Ciudadanos parties as the parliament was about to commence the day’s activities.
Marta Bosquet, the regional speaker, was speaking when she spotted the rat inside the chamber, making her shriek on the microphone and thereafter covered her mouth in shock.
Amid the ensuing melee, some of the lawmakers could be scampering for safety, while others called for calm.
The development had temporarily disrupted the parliament’s voting session on the appointment of Susana Diaz, a socialist politician, as senator for the southern Spanish region.
The rat, said to be of a considerable size, was reportedly captured by a company contracted by the Andalusian parliament.
The lawmakers later returned to their seats after a while and eventually approved Diaz’s senatorial role when voting ended.
