Dolly Parton wins Jeff Bezos’ $100m charity award
Dolly Parton, the US singer, has won the 2022 ‘Courage and Civility’ award initiated by Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, and Lauren Sanchez, his partner.
With the award, the singer will get a cash prize of $100 million to support charities.
Bezos shared a video from the award ceremony via his Twitter page on Sunday.
Speaking at the event, Sanchez said the “award recognises leaders who aim high, find solutions and always do it with civility. Each awardee receives 100 million dollars to direct to charities that they see fit.”
In his remark, Bezos described Parton as “incredible” and lauded her philanthropic gestures over the years.
“We’ve just announced a new Courage and Civility award recipient — @DollyParton, who leads with her heart, and will put this $100 million award to great use helping so many people. She joins prior awardees, @VanJones68 and @Chefjoseandres. Congrats, Dolly!” the billionaire businessman wrote on Twitter.
In a short address, Parton thanked Bezos for the initiative and promised to “do good things with the money” given to her.
“When people are in a position to help, you should help. And I know that I’ve always said, ‘I try to put my money where my heart is,’ and I think you do the same thing,” she said.

It feels like being strangled, says Celine Dion on rare illness
Celine Dion, the ace Canadian singer, has detailed the challenges of living with a rare neurological condition.
In December 2022, Celine announced her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder causing uncontrollable muscle tension.
Claudette Dion, her elder sister, also revealed that the singer lost control of her muscles in December 2023.
In April, the 56-year-old also disclosed that she was learning to live with the condition as she had not beaten it.
There is currently no cure for SPS.
In a recent interview with NBC, Dion said the illness feels like “somebody is strangling me”.
She said sometimes when it gets too severe, she suffers from broken ribs and cramping.
“It is like somebody is strangling you. It is like somebody is pushing your larynx/pharynx. It was like talking like that, and you cannot go high or lower,” she said.
“It feels like, if I point my feet, they will stay in that position. Or, if I cook, because I love to cook, my fingers, my hands, will get in position.
“It is cramping but it is like in a position where you cannot unlock them. I have broken ribs at one point because sometimes when it is very severe, it can break.”

Nick Cannon insures testicles for $10 million, gets ‘Most Valuable Balls’ title
Dr. Squatch, a natural men’s soap and personal care company, facilitated the official insurance policy through MMA/Momentous to provide Cannon’s testicles with extra protection.
In an unexpected turn of events, American entertainer Nick Cannon has insured his testicles for a whopping $10 million, securing the title of “Most Valuable Balls.” The Wild ‘n Out host and creator, known for his numerous children and high-profile relationships, took this step using Dr. Squatch’s Ball Valuation Tool.
This tool evaluated Cannon’s family jewels based on factors such as size, favourite features, and bedroom manoeuvres.
Dr. Squatch, a natural men’s soap and personal care company, facilitated the official insurance policy through MMA/Momentous to provide Cannon’s testicles with extra protection. The 43-year-old star, who has 12 children with six different women, expressed his gratitude for the recognition and the insurance.
“Haters say it’s time for me to stop having kids and put this super sperm to rest, but I’m doubling down on these valuable balls and my future kids,” Cannon declared. “Shoutout to Dr. Squatch for giving my balls the credit they deserve and hooking me up with the protection I need to keep this family tree rolling!”
Nick Cannon joins a list of celebrities who have taken out insurance policies on their body parts. Notably, Rihanna reportedly insured her legs for $1 million, while Cannon’s ex-wife Mariah Carey took out two $35 million policies for her voice and her legs.
Cannon’s journey into fatherhood began in 2011 with the birth of twins Moroccan and Monroe, now 13, with ex-wife Carey. His other children include sons Golden, 7, and Rise, 1, and daughter Powerful, 3, with Brittany Bell; 2-year-old twins Zion and Zillion and daughter Beautiful, 1, with Abby De La Rosa; son Legendary, 1, with Bre Tiesi; and daughter Onyx, 1, with LaNisha Cole. Additionally, he shares two children with Alyssa Scott: son Zen, who tragically died at 5 months old, and daughter Halo Marie Cannon, born in December 2022.
In a past interview, Cannon hinted at the possibility of expanding his family further. “God decides when we’re done, but I believe I definitely got my hands full,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “And I’m so focused. I’m locked in. But when I’m 85, you never know. I might [have more].”
As Nick Cannon continues to navigate his career and personal life, this latest move underscores his commitment to protecting his unique legacy and future family endeavours.

Autopsy reveals drug reaction as possible cause of Mohbad’s death
The autopsy conducted on the body of late singer Mohbad has revealed the possible cause of his death.
The result of the autopsy conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) was obtained by TheCable Lifestyle on Thursday.
According to the report, samples of the gastric content, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lung of the late singer were retrieved for a toxicology test.
The anatomical and pathological findings revealed that Mohbad had an injury on his right forearm and his body was exhumed with moderate to severe decomposition.
The autopsy also showed that “no significant gross finding” could be attributed to the singer’s death.
The toxicology “revealed the positive finding of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine; however, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range”.
Anti-histamines are medicines used to treat symptoms of allergies. They are also used to treat a variety of other conditions such as stomach problems, colds, and anxiety, among others.
The report said the cause of death could not be ascertained. It, however, added that there is a possibility of drug reaction in view of any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.
“It is noteworthy that the body neither had an autopsy nor embalmed prior to interment on the second day,” the report states.
“Following the Order for Exhumation, the body was exhumed on 21/09/2023 (8 days after the burial).
“Autopsy revealed moderate to marked decomposition of organs. Apart from the superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant gross finding could be attributed to death.
“Against this background, samples were taken for toxicology. This is to determine if there was any anaphylactic reaction, substances of abuse, overdosage or common household poisoning.
“Toxicology revealed positive findings of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine; however, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range. The other analytics were unremarkable.
“In determining fatal anaphylactic shock, blood sample needs to be taken as quickly as possible.
“Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. In the light of the foregoing, cause of death could not be ascertained.
“However, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) could be considered in view of the absence of any significant post mortem and toxicology findings.”
