A book believed to be the earliest and most complete copy of the Hebrew Bible was sold for $38.1 million (₦17.6 billion) on Wednesday in New York, auction house Sotheby’s announced.

The Codex Sassoon “contains all 24 books of the Hebrew Bible missing only 12 leaves and precedes the earliest entirely complete Hebrew Bible, the Leningrad Codex, by nearly a century,” the auction house said.

The Bible, dating to the late ninth or early 10th century, has become the most expensive auctioned manuscript and the most expensive religious Jewish artefact auctioned in history, Sotheby’s said.

After a four-minute bidding war, the auction was won by a U.S. non-profit which intended to gift it to the ANU Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv.

‘What God cannot do doesn’t exist’ is a silly slogan, Patrick Doyle tackles Christians

Patrick Doyle, the ace actor, has tackled Christians who use the phrase ‘What God cannot do does not exist’.

The slogan is popular among Christians as an expression of belief that God can accomplish the impossible.

But in a recent Facebook post, the thespian argued that despite the fact that the slogan has been proven to be “nonsensical”, people still chant it.

Although Doyle did not provide evidence to back his argument, he also condemned the slogan which he referred to as “silly”.

He urged Christians to be weary of using phrases that have tendencies to introduce “false teachings”.

“Some people are just too obstinate to admit their folly. Even after that slogan “What God cannot do doesn’t exist” has been proven to be silly, they still continue to chant it, ” he wrote.

“The work of bringing things into existence was completed by God on the 7th day of creation. To speculate that some things “don’t exist” and couch that irrational possibility in a slogan is insulting. Slogans, no matter how woke they sound, have the power of attrition to blunt the efficacy of profound scriptures, he added.

“A good example is the slogan “Heaven helps those who help themselves.” This slogan overtime has become part of “Christian Lexicon” and has insidiously introduced the false doctrine of “works of men” to supplant the profundity of the doctrine of the “Finished Work Of Christ.” Here is a word of caution to christian slogan copy writers, “If It Breeds Doubt, Do Without”.”

‘What God cannot do doesn’t exist’ is an expression often used in the daily online ministration of Jerry Eze, the Nigerian Pentecostal pastor.
The cleric and gospel singer Dunsin Oyekan also put out a song with the slogan as the title.

The slogan has also been used by a plethora of notable Christians including gospel singers like Frank Edwards, Steve Crown, and Judikay.

Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, the controversial Onitsha-based cleric fondly called Odumeje, has issued a strong warning to his critics.

In a now-viral video, the clergyman dismissed rumours that he makes use of fake powers.

Odumeje maintained that “he is a man of God” and “not a fake prophet”.

The cleric also warned critics who do not like his ways of teaching to desist from spreading falsehood about him.

“I am not a fake man of God. I do not have anything to do with fake power; only Jesus I call. Only Jesus appears to me. I have never gone to any place to seek power or any native doctor. It is all about Jesus,” he said.

“A lot of charms I have collected from people that I have destroyed. It is all about Jesus. I am radical. I am a prophet. Go to the Bible and check Elisha. If you do not know about the word of God; about the prophet. I am not the man you preach about on the altar and go free. I am very dangerous.

“The way I cure those deaf and dumb remove cancer, I can invest it in you. Preach about Jesus. That is the only mission you come here to preach… do not criticise the miracles that Jesus is using me to do because you want to get attention from people. You can never go free. Because when you are saying it people will be placing satan more than Christ. You are misleading people.”
