I’m not after winning awards but to make money, says Blaqbonez

Blaqbonez, the Nigerian rapper, says he is not after winning awards but to make money from his craft.

Last Wednesday, the organisers of the 16th Headies released the nomination list for this year’s award show.

Blaqbonez is shortlisted in two of the award categories including ‘Best Rap Music’ and ‘Best Music Video’.

Speaking with Tacha, ex-BBNaija housemate, on Cool FM, Blaqbonez argued that “what matters is the money that is coming in from my music”.

“For example, in one of the categories, Odumodublvck is nominated. One of us has to win and it might not be either of us. But when your stuff is actually going gold or silver, we can all go gold or go silver. So, I do not need to beat this other guy to beat this other guy to (be at the top),” he said.

“So that is why I do not care for nominations. And nobody will ever agree. It is not like the whole world came together to say this is who deserves it. Everybody will argue.

“If your song is global, I do not care if you give me any award. What matters is the money that is coming in. And then you can sleep well, knowing that your music reaches places.”
