‘I’m not a street artiste’ — says Shallipopi amid criticism from Spyro

Published

on

Shallipopi, the Nigerian singer, has dropped a cryptic message in response to the criticism from Spyro, his colleague, over the lyrics of ‘Elon Musk’, his hit song.

In a recent interview, Spyro said the things people say and see can have a powerful influence on their thoughts and actions.

Using “para dey body”, a line from Shallipopi’s song as a reference, Spyro said such lyrics could promote fraudulent behaviour.

Spyro’s comment has continued to stir up heated conversations on social media platforms.

Joey Akan, the music journalist, slammed Spyro, arguing that the singer has “benefited a great deal” by working “with worldly-adjacent artistes”.

Spyro had vowed that he would never create “ungodly music” in June.

In the post on X — formerly called Twitter — Akan also questioned Spyro’s commitment to avoid the “worldly aspect of showbiz”.

In his reaction via X, Shallipopi warned that he is not a street artiste — although he did not provide more context to his post.

He also argued that he owns “an entirely different planet” and is “not an artiste of this earth”.

“I’m not a street artist! I’m not even an artist on this earth. I own an entirely different planet (pluto) be respectful innit,” he wrote.

Skales the Nigerian singer has addressed his relationship with his colleague Wizkid.

Wizkid and Skales were former label mates at Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), Banky W’s record label.

Skales joined EME in 2010 but left in 2014 following the expiration of his four-year contract while Wizkid signed out in 2014 after five years with the music label.

In 2015, the singers traded abuses on social media in a battle that saw them cast aspersions at each other.

In a recent X post, Skales lamented how people switch up on him after attaining fame.

“You know how many people I have given a platform and when they made it , they switched on me but I’m still here and still being blessed by God … I’m unstoppable… I am from Kaduna with Edo in my blood … I am Martina’s son,” he wrote.

The tweet attracted varying reactions, with one user accusing Skales of switching up on Wizkid by “becoming friends with his enemies”.

“You switched on wiz too, became friends with his enemies so as to spite him…Forever an underdog, Werey,” the user wrote.

In his response, the 33-year-old argued that Wizkid “never liked him”. He added that they were just colleagues at EME.

“I never ever switched on him … he doesn’t like me … we were never close friends either but eme members … so rest,” he wrote.

“I have never hated anyone not even your fav fam… I have always believed success is the best revenge even if it takes me 20 years … working on my self and bringing out the best version of me is more important to me so rest.

Blackface, the Nigerian dancehall singer, has called for a reunion of Plantashun Boiz, a defunct music group.

Formed in 2000 with 2Baba and Faze, Plantashun Boiz disbanded in 2004 but briefly reunited in 2007 for an album.

In a recent Instagram post, Blackface shared a nostalgic photo of the trio.

He also accompanied the post the question: “‘To be or not to be?’ @fazealone @official2baba @blackfacenaija @plantashunboizofficial, why not?”

He urged fans to join the mission, emphasizing that there is “unity is strength, not division”.

“#plantashunboiz The question now is “To be or not to be?” @fazealone @officialzbaba @blackfacenaija @plantashunboizofficial and why?” Blackface asked.

“My people oya make una talk put mouth for this matter! We are on a mission for world peace and it’s not a small-time thing! Unity is strength and not division Let’s go champs.”

Since 2015, Blackface constantly tackled 2Baba for recording 2004 hit ‘African Queen’ which he claimed he wrote.

In 2017, he argued that 2Baba “sabotaged” his career in the music industry.

But last year, Blackface extended an olive branch to 2Baba after asking the ‘African Queen’ hitmaker to forgive him for his “wrongdoings, knowingly or unknowingly”.

“So it is time for us to go to the next level. I want everybody to know this one. It is time to forget all these things that have been going on,” he had said.

TG Omori reacts as Portable claims celebrities didn’t fund kidney transplant

TG Omori has responded to claims that his music industry network did not offer him financial aid during his health crisis.

Omori, who has been battling kidney disease, underwent a transplant on August 26 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos.

The music video director said he went into surgery three times for the transplant, yet it was not successful.

Portable, a singer, berated celebrities in the heat of public discourse around Omori’s health, claiming they did not fund the treatment.

He compared the purported lack of support to the donations made to Bobrisky, the crossdresser, who was jailed for currency abuse.

Portable further described the camaraderie in Nigeria’s music industry as “fake”.

“TG Omori has a kidney problem and celebrities are not donating money or kidneys for him,” he said.

“But Victor Osimhen and others donated money for Bobrisky who has no value. The industry is full of fake love.”

In response, TG Omori clarified that he had received support from industry colleagues even before his health issues became public.

“All I needed was your prayers, moral support, and love. This I am grateful to have gotten in abundance,” the video director said.

“The industry and friends have been solidly behind me months before it all came public. Please ignore the clout-desperate dogs.”
