Rema breaks Sunny Ade’s 40-year-old record on Billboard albums chart

Published

‘Rave & Roses’, Rema’s debut project, has set a new record for the longest charting album on Billboard 200 by a Nigerian artiste.

In March 2022, the music star released the 16-track body of work.

In the album, Rema featured international artistes such as 6lack, Chris Brown, AJ Tracey, and Yseult.

This week, Rema broke the record as the Nigerian artiste with the longest-running album in the US Billboard 200 — a feat which was held by Sunny Ade, the ace musician, for four decades.

In 1982, the legendary musician put out ‘Juju Music’, his critically-acclaimed album.

The album spent 29 weeks — from May 1, 1983, to September 1, 1983 — on the Billboard 200 chart. It was the longest-running Nigerian album in the chart’s history until recently.

‘Rave & Roses’ has now spent its 30th week on the chart — as of this week — setting a new record.

Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, has been enjoying massive reception from music lovers since he came into the limelight.

Yemi Solade, the Nigerian actor, has fired back at an Instagram user who criticised his role in a new film titled ‘5Alive’.

The controversy began when fellow actor Rotimi Salami shared a promotional video on Instagram, showcasing Yemi and co-star Sanusi Izihaq (Apa) in an intimate scene.

Solade appeared to have kissed Izihaq on the cheek in the video that portrayed the two men as lovers.

The footage provoked a chorus of condemnation, with critics accusing the actors of attempting to promote homosexuality.

One critic, known as Dunne Black, launched a personal attack on Yemi, writing in Yoruba, “Mo sorry but ara yin o ya” which translates to, “I’m sorry, but you are not okay”.

Solade responded to the criticism with fierce retorts in Yoruba.

“Orí bàbá ẹ to wà ní ọgbà wèrè lo ń bá wí,” he fired back — meaning “It’s your father’s head in the asylum you are talking to”.
