Falz’ sister Folakemi writes Chief coroner to conduct Mohbad’s autopsy
Falz’s sister Folakemi Falana has written the chief coroner of Lagos state, requesting that an urgent autopsy be carried out to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death.
In the document posted to her Instagram story, she appealed to the chief coroner to look into the tragic passing of the late singer Mohbad. The document was sent from her father Femi Falana’s (SAN) law chambers, dated Monday, September 18, 2023. Falana, in her appeal, noted that Mohbad showed no symptoms of sickness before his passing, and was active.
The statement began, “We are aware of the very tragic death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba. Popularly known as Mohbad who died on September 12 2023 under mysterious circumstances in Ikorodu Lagos. It was alleged that the young man showed no signs of ailments before he left home and even performed at a show in Ikorodu but died hours after his performance.”
Going on, she requested that a coroner’s inquest be conducted to ascertain the cause of the singer’s demise, who was just 27 years old. Referring to the Lagos State Coroners Law, she requested that the request be met with urgency.
In her words, “Given the needless death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, we are compelled to request you use your good offices to cause a coroner’s inquest to be concluded into the cause of death of this young promising musician and make appropriate recommendations pursuant to section 15 of the Lagos state coroner’s law 2007 which provides that an inquest shall hold whenever a coroner is informed that the death of a deceased person within his coroner’s district is as a result of a death in a violent on natural or suspicious situation.
We hereby request your lordship to conduct an inquest into the circumstances surrounding his tragic death in Lagos state and we are confident that your lordship will accede to our request with utmost urgency. Please your lordship accept the assurances of our principal, Femi Falana SAN.”
Mohbad was a fast-rising star, who suddenly passed away on September 12, 2023, throwing the nation into grief for the days to come. Following his death and hasty funeral, allegations and raised suspicions of potential foul play indicated that his death may not have been normal.
Videos showing the alleged maltreatment he suffered at the hands of his former record label made rounds in the social media. On top of that, Mohbad’s official request to the police for protection from his former boss Naira Marley, his counterpart Sammy Larry and others, also made rounds. Alongside statements and testimonials from the people who last saw him, allegations of foul play have run wild leading to the trending hashtag #justiceforMohbad. Following the agitations, official police investigations were launched on Monday, September 18, 2023.

Reactions trail US influencer Woah Vicky’s post on ‘poverty in Nigeria’
Woah Vicky, the US influencer, has sparked reactions on social media after saying she witnessed “widespread poverty” during her visit to Nigeria.
Born Victoria Rose Waldrip, the social media celebrity, who spent part of the festive season in Lagos, revealed in a recent X post that her experience in the country prompted her to speak out about the nation’s “struggles and the need for support”.
The American influencer, who also faked her kidnap in Nigeria, said her visit exposed her to the “high level of poverty and the people’s struggles”.
The 24-year-old said despite the city’s vibrant nightlife and clubs, she couldn’t help but notice the stark contrast between the affluence of some areas and the dire living conditions of many Nigerians.
“I recently visited Lagos, Nigeria, and while it’s known for its nightlife and clubs, I couldn’t help but notice the bigger picture. So many people there are struggling with hunger and poverty—it’s heartbreaking. It’s sad to see visitors focusing only on the parties when there’s such a clear need for help,” she wrote.
“Nigeria needs prayer, missions, and tangible support, not just tourism for entertainment. Let’s pray for this country and find ways to contribute to real change.”

Stormzy banned from driving after mobile phone use
Stormzy, the British rapper, has been banned from driving for nine months after pleading guilty to using a phone while driving.
The 31-year-old rapper, whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Owuo Junior, was stopped by an off-duty police officer while driving a Rolls-Royce on Addison Road, West Kensington, London, in March last year.
During the stop, the officer reportedly knocked on Owuo’s tinted passenger window and told him to “get rid of your tints and get off your phone”.
Initially, Stormzy denied the claim but later wrote to the court to change his plea to guilty.
Andrew Sweet, the presiding judge, said Stormzy’s driving record was “not good” and described his action as “dangerous and irresponsible”.
The district judge then banned the rapper, who was not present in court, from driving for nine months and fined him £2,010.
Before Thursday’s hearing, the singer had six points on his licence.
In the UK, drivers can be disqualified if they build up 12 or more penalty points within three years.
In July 2024, Stormzy admitted to driving a Lamborghini Urus that had front windows illegally tinted to only 4% light transmission, violating the 70% requirement.
Prosecutor Alice Holloway said the vehicle’s use was dangerous and put “vulnerable road users at risk”.
Defending the rapper, Peter Csemiczky, his solicitor, said his client apologised and had removed the tints.

Adanma Luke narrates how she contemplated suicide after Jnr Pope’s death due to online backlash
Adanma Luke, the producer of the movie in which late actor Junior Pope was supposed to be featured, has detailed her struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts following the tragic incident.
Pope died on April 10 in a boat accident on the River Niger in Asaba, Delta state. He was on his way to a movie location when the incident occurred.
The accident claimed the lives of four other crew members, leaving the film industry in shock.
In a lengthy Instagram post, the filmmaker described the period after Pope’s death as “very dark”. She revealed that she contemplated suicide due to the overwhelming backlash she received on social media.
The actress also shared that she had to stop breastfeeding her three-month-old baby due to the emotional toll of the situation.
Adanma expressed her gratitude to Uche Nancy, a movie producer who stood by her during the challenging time.
She praised Uche for her emotional support and unwavering encouragement which helped her navigate the difficult period.
“With so much tears in my eyes, after so much pressure and expenses in April I reached out to this beautiful soul @uchenancy and she said Ada, don’t worry I dey for you. Just let me know if there’s more to do and i won’t abandon you. She spoke as if she was me and gave me instances of why i should stay alive and strong,” she wrote.
“It lifted my soul even though I was contemplating suicide at that time and lost interest in whatever was happening and just needed to exit this world because it was indeed a very dark period for me. I had to stop breastfeeding in less than 3 months due so much sadness in my heart, depression, calls and hash words from families of the deceased and online fans.
“To be sincere I was online because my phone was the closest thing to me at that point. My mom took away my child so i don’t feed or breastfeed my child with sadness. I only come online to cry away my pains from the hurtful words being thrown at me and feel a little better from some good friends and fans who choose to love me regardless.
“Whatever I did or posted then was what my mindset was all about. Please help me say a kind prayer for this beautiful soul @uchenancy because she didn’t just help me with the huge financial support but also made sure I’m doing okay till now. I can’t end my 2024 without appreciating you my beautiful hardworking woman @uchenancy may God continue to bless you richly.”
