Wizkid says 2023 showed him ‘shege’
Ayodeji Balogun, the Grammy-winning Nigerian megastar better known as Wizkid, says the year 2023 showed him “shege”.
“Shege” is a slang that means different things to different people in Nigeria. It can refer to financial difficulties, physical or mental stress, difficult tasks or unexpected events.
In a recent post on his Instagram story, the Afrobeats star also said he is looking forward to a better 2024.
“23 show me shege! 24 be good to me!.”
Although Wizkid did not provide context to his post, we reported that the singer lost his mum in August. She was also buried the following month.
The singer also referred to his mum’s death as “my deepest pain in life”.
