Ring on the little finger — what does it mean?
Today, wearing a ring on the little finger has a completely different meaning and it is worn more willingly by women than men.
A ring on the little finger can look very original and at the same time elegant and stylish.
Wearing jewellery on a specific finger is often associated with various symbols – this is the case with a wedding ring or an engagement ring.
Although a ring on the little finger can have several different meanings, it has recently become fashionable to associate it with self-love and taking care of one’s own needs.
Ring on the little finger – what does it symbolise?
A ring on the little finger may seem unusual, but wearing jewellery in this place has a very long tradition. Until the 19th century, men in Europe wore signet rings with a coat of arms on the small square of their left hand, and after entering into marriage, they added a wedding ring. Well-born bachelors were distinguished by the fact that they had only one ring on their little finger.
In the 20th century, new symbolism emerged—largely influenced by films like The Godfather. Wearing a ring in a small square came to be associated with being a member of the Mafia, especially if the ring was ostentatiously large and ornate.
Nowadays, a ring on the little finger most often expresses something very personal or is a reflection of the personality of the wearer. In the offer of jewellery stores, you can find a lot of rings for the little finger, including personalised jewellery – an example would be a subtle signet ring with the first letter of the name.
Ring on the little finger – who wears it?
Melody Godfred, head of the Fred and Far brand, has come up with a new meaning for the pinky ring that has been gaining popularity recently. The ring she designed is called the Self Love Pinky Ring. According to the creator, it is meant to be a symbol of practising self-love and taking care of or fulfilling one’s needs.
As Melody noted, this is often a problem for women who, at home, at work or as mothers, take care of others first and foremost, putting themselves last. A ring on the little finger is therefore meant to be an internal promise not to forget about yourself in the rush of duties.
The ring created by Melody has a sapphire eyelet in the shape of an inverted triangle attached to a delicate, thin band and looks great on the little finger. The brand’s head emphasises that such a ring can be worn by singles and married women, mothers and childless women. They don’t have to reach for her design at all, but it is important that when wearing the ring they choose on a small square, they don’t forget about themselves.
A pinky ring can be a great gift for yourself on an important occasion – a promotion at work, the birth of a child, a birthday, etc.
Deji Adeyanju, the political activist and convener of the human rights group Concerned Nigerians, and his wife Nana Bello have welcomed a baby girl.
The human rights activist took to his X account on Sunday evening to announce the arrival of his first child with Nana.
Adeyanju also appreciated God for their bundle of joy while expressing his delight.
“God has just blessed my wife and I with a beautiful baby girl. And we are grateful and delighted. The Lord has done it finally, finally, finally!” he wrote.
Adeyanju and Nana tied the knot in December 2023 at Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre while the reception took place at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Garki, Abuja.
Nana had described their union as “two hearts with one love”. She also prayed for God’s love to be the “centre of our marriage”.
“Through God’s grace, our paths intertwined, and now we stand on the threshold of our forever. In these moments captured, I see His love shining through us, guiding us towards a lifetime of faith, hope, and love,” she wrote on Instagram.
Asa Asika, the manager of Davido, the Nigerian music star, and Leona Adesanya, his girlfriend, are engaged.
The proposal, captured in a viral video on social media, shows the talent manager leading Adesanya to the venue where he popped the question.
In the video, friends and well-wishers could be seen cheering in the background as Davido proudly said, “He is my boy”.
Fans and industry colleagues have flooded social media with wishes for the couple.

Basketmouth, the ace Nigerian comedian, has addressed the widely circulated reports of himself in a potential new relationship.
On Thursday, the 45-year-old funnyman shared an intimate photo with Miz Vick, the media personality.
“About to step into the next chapter of my life @mizvick,” he captioned the post, suggesting he may have found love.
Miz Vick also reposted the picture on her Instagram story.
Their fans and colleagues took to the post’s comment section to congratulate them. Rumours of their engagement also went viral on social media.
Sharing an update on Friday, the comedian clarified that his previous Instagram post with Miz Vick was for an upcoming movie, not a confirmation of their relationship.
Basketmouth also shared a teaser of the film titled ‘A Ghetto Love Story’ while they both revealed it is their first feature-length film.
He also disclosed that the star-studded movie will be released on November 22.
On why he used Vick’s photo to tease the project, Basketmouth said, “Oh yes, it is called clout chasing”.
The TV host asked, “and I had to take the fall for it”. The comedian replied, “no, nobody fell now. Na them fall… them fall for am,” the comedian said after which he burst into laughter.
Basketmouth separated from Elsie, his ex-wife. The pair tied the knot in 2010. They also share three children.
