I am too disciplined to become a thief – Actress Lizzy Anjorin debunks reports

Published

on

Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin has revisited the allegations from February 2024, in which she was accused of stealing gold worth ₦90,000 from the market.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Timi Agbaje, the actress told her side of the story, asserting that she could never steal.

She said, “Let’s first establish the fact that we’re talking about ₦91,000 gold when a gram of gold was 150,000. A gram of gold is less than a grain of rice so how can you go into the market to steal something less than a grain of rice, a single rice?”

The actress expressed her frustration regarding the accusation, stating that the notion that she would steal gold was “ridiculous.”

“I’m a certified jewellery seller, I sell gold and diamonds. I am also a certified fabric merchant so how can I stoop so low to go to Eko Idumota to steal a gram of gold? Something that is less than a grain of rice? That is ridiculous. I am not a thief, I will never be a thief. I am too straightforward and too disciplined to become a thief,” she said.

Recall that on February 5, 2024, a viral video of her in a shop made rounds on social media and in the video, she was accused of shoplifting. Anjorin was seen trying to avoid being recorded by her accusers and then moved from her seat to a place where her face was not as visible. A crowd had gathered and a woman’s voice could be heard stressing that the actress did not steal.

However, after that, she took to social media and stressed that she was framed by someone she called “Shekpeteri.”

Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom, has handed over a “remodeled fully-furnished six-bedroom bungalow” to the family of Abigael Frederick, the makeup artiste who died in a boat mishap in Delta.

Abigael died alongside actor Junior Pope and some other crew members in April after their boat capsized inside River Niger in Asaba. They were on their way to a movie location.

Her body was recovered from the water days after the fatal incident.

Eno had promised to “remodel” her family’s house and sponsor her siblings’ education during his condolence visit in April.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the governor revealed he has renovated the house to a six-bedroom bungalow “which is fully furnished”.

Eno said he also donated a business support grant of N1 million to the family and an additional N1 million as an educational grant to her siblings

The governor said he was committed to the promise “for humanity, not political reasons”. He urged people to be empathetic to each other.

“Today, I fulfilled a commitment made to the family of the late Nollywood makeup artist Abigail Edith Frederick by handing over a newly remodeled and fully furnished six-bedroom bungalow in Ikot Udoma, Eket,” he wrote.

“In addition to the home, I also provided the family with a business support grant of one million naira and another one million naira as an educational grant to her younger sisters.

“Back in February, during my personal visit to the family, I promised not only to renovate their home but also to offer automatic employment to Abigail’s elder sister and extend educational support.

“Today marks the completion of that promise. I believe in standing by our people during their most challenging moments, and my administration remains committed to the well-being of every Akwa Ibomite, not for political reasons but for humanity.

“Let’s continue to work together to lift each other up and show that true leadership is about empathy, action, and the collective good.”

Diddy placed on suicide watch in prison

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the embattled rapper, has reportedly been placed on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The 54-year-old music mogul who was arrested at a hotel in Manhattan on Monday is currently facing federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

On Tuesday, Robyn Tarnofsky, the US magistrate judge, ordered that the hitmaker be sent to jail to await trial in his case. The Bad Boy Records founder was also denied bail.

Tarnofsky’s order followed after Diddy pleaded not guilty to the 14-page federal indictment against him.

On Thursday, People quoted sources at the prison as saying that the rapper has been placed on suicide watch for “preventative measures”.

It added that “Combs is in shock and his mental state is unclear”.

Prison occupants are placed on suicide watch as “supervisory precautions taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation,” according to the US Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections.

The news outlet did not reveal how long Diddy will remain under suicide watch, or if he is suicidal.

The rapper is expected to remain at the Metropolitan Detention Center ahead of trial — although the date has yet to be revealed.

The New York Times reports that the detention facility, which holds more than 1,200 people, has a reputation for violence, filthy conditions, food contamination, and suicides.

On Tuesday, federal prosecutors charged Diddy with sex trafficking by force, transportation to engage in prostitution, and racketeering conspiracy.

They alleged the rapper, with help from Combs Enterprise associates, ran an “enterprise that he engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor or, kidnapping, arson and other crimes”.

Combs was said to have “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct” from 2008 to now.

Diddy is the highest-profile musician to face sexual misconduct charges since Robert Sylvester Kelly, the R&B singer popularly known as R. Kelly.

Kelly was sentenced in 2022 to more than 30 years in prison for sexually abusing fans, some of them children, racketeering, and sex trafficking.
