Like Tems, Ayra Starr, Fireboy says he has ‘never fallen in love’

Fireboy DML, the Nigerian singer, says he has “never been in love”.

In an interview on ‘Is This Seat Taken?’ podcast, the ‘Peru’ hitmaker spoke about his perspective on “true love”.

The 28-year-old singer said he feels the fact that love is inherently sacrificial is “messed up”. He also revealed his struggles with love, admitting, “I don’t think I’ve ever been in love”.

“Love means sacrifice to me. I think true love is sacrificial in nature which I think is really messed up,” he said.

Born Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan, Fireboy is signed to YBNL Nation, a record label founded by rapper Olamide.

In the interview, the singer also spoke of his relationship with Olamide, describing it as “dynamic”. He lauded his record label boss for being “emotionally intelligent”.

“My relationship with Olamide is very dynamic. Sometimes he is my CEO, business partner and sometimes my big brother,” he said.

“We always find a way to work around those dynamics. He is a really good person and probably the most emotionally intelligent person I know.”

Fireboy is not the only prominent Nigerian artistes who has openly voiced their sentiments on love.

In June, Tems, another Nigerian singer, admitted that she has never been in love.

“I haven’t been in love. Loving someone for me is more of ‘I see you and I still want to be in your life. Even though you annoy me sometimes, I choose you and I choose you,” said Tems during an interview with the YouTube content creator Korty EO.

Ayra Starr also recently revealed she has never been in a fully committed relationship because of her focus on music.

“I want to fall in love. I wrote ‘Lagos Love Story’ about what love would look like if I was. I am a lover girl deep in my heart, I’m just very strong headed about it. I actually have never been in love. I have been in certain situations – not situationships! – but I have never been in a fully committed relationship,” she said.

“I’ve put myself out there and I’ve tried to see what’s there but I don’t think I’ve had the time. I’ve been working since I was 15, I was modelling, I was doing university, and now I’m on the road.”

Davido, the Afrobeats star, has advised black Americans against relocating to Nigeria, citing the country’s economic challenges.

In an appearance on The Big Homies House podcast, the singer shared his thoughts on the struggles bedeviling Nigeria, stating, “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles”.

Davido also mentioned Nigeria’s struggles with bad leadership, a high exchange rate, and skyrocketing oil prices, which are negatively impacting the country.

“It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles. I do my part, I am an ambassador. When I go home and I am filming, I am no going to show the bad parts,” he said.

“I am talking about the situation in the country. Now the exchange rate is messed up, a lot of stuffs are not going well.

“The economy is just not good enough. The oil price is too high. Imagine the country that produces oil, paying more for it than a country importing oil.”

Despite the challenges, Davido emphasised the entertainment industry’s positive impact on Africa’s global image.

“Regardless, entertainment is one of the thing that has made Africa look good. We do not have the best leader, that is a fact,” he said.

US actor Jussie Smollett’s conviction for staged attack overturned

American actor, Jussie Smollett’s conviction for fabricating a racist and homophobic hate crime in Chicago in 2019 was overturned Thursday on due process grounds.

The Illinois Supreme Court ruled that Smollett, 42, should not have been charged again by prosecutors after a prior agreement saw over a dozen original charges dismissed.

It is the latest twist in Smollett’s legal saga, which began with his initial claim in January 2019 that he had been attacked on a Chicago street.

The gay African-American actor, then a cast member of the hit TV series “Empire,” said two masked men assaulted him late at night, shouting slurs and placing a noose around his neck.

Smollett staged the attack after receiving a legitimate piece of hate mail which he felt was not taken seriously by his employers, prosecutors said.

But those charges were suddenly dropped in March 2019, under an arrangement in which Smollett forfeited his $10,000 bond and agreed to do community service.

The dismissal was met with anger by some city officials, including then-mayor Rahm Emanuel, who argued $10,000 was only a fraction of the actual investigation costs.

A special prosecutor eventually took over the case and several charges were reinstated.

Smollett, who has always maintained his innocence, was found guilty in December 2021.

Though he was sentenced to 150 days in prison with 30 months on probation, he was released pending the outcome of his appeal.

He was also ordered to repay $120,106 to the Chicago Police to cover their investigation costs.

The case had initially sent shock waves through a deeply divided country still plagued by racial and sexual discrimination, and the actor had immediately received support from celebrities in political and cultural circles.

The Illinois Supreme Court ruling said that bringing the charges a second time after “the defendant has performed his part of the bargain” represented “a due process violation.”

“We therefore reverse (the) defendant’s conviction,” the ruling said.

Falz, the Nigerian rapper, has expressed admiration for ladies who wear miniskirts.

The ‘Soft Work’ hitmaker shared his thoughts on fashion, relationships, and personal growth during an interview on the ‘Cocktail and Takeaways’ podcast.

Falz revealed that when it comes to women’s fashion, he likes women on short dresses and miniskirts, particularly tennis skirts.

The 34-year-old rapper said he admires the outfits because they showcase the “sexiness in a woman”.

“I have a thing for short dresses and skirts. They really bring out the sexiness in a woman. I like miniskirts so much,” he said.

“The plaited tennis short skirts, that is my weakness. If a woman wears that skirt it is over for me. I love it.”

Falz also disclosed that his priorities have shifted when it comes to relationships.

He said he no longer focuses solely on physical attributes but instead values a partner’s demeanor and intellectual depth.

“My type of girl is not in the looks, it in the aura. I used to be that guy that cares about looks, the big breast and butt,” he added.

“I feel like the older I become the more I realise there are lot of that so it has to be beyond the looks.

“What is it about you intellectually, what conversation like with you. So it is more than just look for me, it is the undeniable aura.”
