Mummy Wa reveals sexual harassment ordeal in Nollywood

Published

Kemi Ikuseedun, the skit maker better known as Mummy Wa, has revealed her experience with sexual harassment in the film industry.

Sharing her experiences on the WithChude podcast, Mummy Wa, also called Kemz Mama, said she received unwanted sexual advances from filmmakers while trying to establish her career.

The content creator said she rejected the advances because she knew they wouldn’t guarantee her the role she wanted.

Mummy Wa also emphasised that no woman is immune to sexual harassment in the industry, regardless of physical appearance.

“What I said related more behind the scenes, not even as an actor. Behind the scenes, a lot of people are asking for things. They are asking for a whole lot of things. But me I cannot do it,” she said.

“Where do I want to start from? How do I want to even do it? Me that I am already coming from a place where they tell me ‘this thing will not work’. How many people do you want to sleep with?

“To be honest with you, you might actually sleep with somebody in the movie industry and the role they will give you, will not ‘blow! You will still be there.

“Me entering entertainment, I saw a lot of men. But guess what? Even the ones that do not have anything; that are slim, they are still asking for things from them.

“No woman is free. No woman is immune. But me, I cannot do it.”

Mummy Wa gained fame through her appearances in Mr. Macaroni’s skits.

Last year, she revealed how she secured her first role in Mr Macaroni’s comedy.

Oprah Winfrey debunks claim she got $1m to endorse Kamala Harris

Oprah Winfrey, the media executive, has denied claims that she received a $1 million payment to campaign for Kamala Harris.

Donald Trump, the Republican standard-bearer, recently defeated Harris, candidate of the Democratic Party in the United States presidential election, to become the 47th president.

But on November 8, Washington Examiner alleged that Winfrey’s company Harpo Productions received the payment to host a celebrity town hall meeting.

The newspaper claimed the $1 million was part of a $1 billion raised by Harris to fund the election.

The report alleged the campaign “paid more than $15 million, according to federal filings,” on “event production”.

“This included a $1 million payment to Harpo Productions for the ‘Unite for America’ event, which took place in September,” it added.

Winfrey had hosted a town hall meeting for Harris on September 19, which featured prominent celebrities like Chris Rock, Jennifer Lopez, and Meryl Streep. She also appeared as a keynote speaker at Harris’ rally in Philadelphia.

Despite her involvement in the rally, the 70-year-old television host maintained that she did not receive any payment for her support.

In an interview with TMZ, Winfrey denied the report, saying “it is untrue”.

“Not true. I was paid nothing ever,” she said.

In a statement, Harpo Productions confirmed that the Harris campaign had paid for the costs of the town hall, without giving a specific figure.

“Oprah Winfrey was at no point during the campaign paid a personal fee, nor did she receive a fee from Harpo,” it added.
