Reactions trail US influencer Woah Vicky’s post on ‘poverty in Nigeria’
Woah Vicky, the US influencer, has sparked reactions on social media after saying she witnessed “widespread poverty” during her visit to Nigeria.
Born Victoria Rose Waldrip, the social media celebrity, who spent part of the festive season in Lagos, revealed in a recent X post that her experience in the country prompted her to speak out about the nation’s “struggles and the need for support”.
The American influencer, who also faked her kidnap in Nigeria, said her visit exposed her to the “high level of poverty and the people’s struggles”.
The 24-year-old said despite the city’s vibrant nightlife and clubs, she couldn’t help but notice the stark contrast between the affluence of some areas and the dire living conditions of many Nigerians.
“I recently visited Lagos, Nigeria, and while it’s known for its nightlife and clubs, I couldn’t help but notice the bigger picture. So many people there are struggling with hunger and poverty—it’s heartbreaking. It’s sad to see visitors focusing only on the parties when there’s such a clear need for help,” she wrote.
“Nigeria needs prayer, missions, and tangible support, not just tourism for entertainment. Let’s pray for this country and find ways to contribute to real change.”

The post has triggered mixed emotions, ranging from support to criticism. While some users have praised her for observation, others have questioned her motives and accused her of being “insensitive”.

Frank Edoho narrates how he was almost fired from WWTBAM over domestic violence claims
Frank Edoho says he was almost removed as the host of the game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (WWTBAM) due to allegations of domestic violence.
Edoho was previously married to Katherine Obiang for seven years. They have three children together.
The TV host recounted his relationship with his ex-wife in an interview on WithChude podcast on Saturday.
He described his marriage to Katherine as a “mismatch”, adding that they are both to blame for the relationship’s challenges.
Edoho said rumours of domestic violence began to circulate after their separation, which jeopardised his career as the host of the show.
“My ex-wife was my friend and there were children involved. I think ours was a mismatch, I was young. When she got pregnant I had cold feet but I still got married. It lasted seven years and in 2010, I left. Three years after I remarried,” he said.
“Being friends with the opposite sex doesn’t mean you should get married because that’s a different ball game. In hindsight, maybe I should have thought about it a bit more.
“She was my good friend but I think it was love too. I also think we didn’t look at each other very well before we delved into it. I’m not going to say it was only her fault, it was my fault too but not in the way people were depicting it.
“That was one of the times I was very depressed but I couldn’t say anything. The first crisis happened in 2007 but I still stayed on for three years, then it got to a head in 2010 and I left.
“When I left I was still doing Who Wants to be a Millionaire, then all of a sudden I was in the UK and my boss called me and told me to come back to Lagos because the sponsors are hearing things about me.
“They said I’m not going to present this show anymore because of those rumours. I got on a flight the following morning to attend a meeting with them.
“Luckily, my boss knew everything because I’d been telling him about the altercations between us. I was also thinking about my children. They said I committed domestic violence and I’m a wife-beater.
“After listening to them, I told them I’ll tell them everything starting from when I was dating. By the time I reached marriage and the birth of my son and first daughter, two of the ladies were crying.
“I was giving accounts of everything that happened and I told them that I have receipts. I said nobody divorced me, I took my suitcase and left the marriage.”
Frank Edoho tied the knot with his second wife Sandra Onyenuchenuya on April 2, 2014.
They have two children together.

‘Why would a dad tell son not to give mum his password’ — Basketmouth’s estranged wife, Elsie Okpocha asks
Elsie Okpocha, Basketmouth’s estranged wife, has posted cryptic social media messages that seem to be directed at the comedian.
In the first post on her Instagram story, Elsie asked why someone would try to frustrate another person’s efforts simply because they have decided to be happy.
“How are you still trying to frustrate her efforts because she decided to be happy,” the entrepreneur wrote.
In a subsequent post, Elsie expressed concern about a father telling his 16-year-old son not to share his phone password with his mother.
“Tell me why a father should tell a son of 16 years! 16 years! not to give his mother his password,” she added.
“I need an answer. Is a mother not supposed to have access to her 16 year old’s phone?
The posts have rekindled attention on Elsie and Basketmouth’s separation, which was announced in December 2022. The couple’s 12-year marriage ended, leaving fans and friends shocked.
Basketmouth had shared a statement at the time, citing the difficulty of their split and the importance of prioritizing their children’s well-being.

LASBCA addresses controversy over Chioma Goodhair’s demolished property
The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has addressed the controversy surrounding reality star Chioma Ikokwu‘s demolished property in Lekki, Lagos.
The Real House Wives of Lagos (RHOL) reality TV star had claimed that LASBCA officials denied her access to her demolished property and used policemen to intimidate her.
According to Chioma, LASBCA served her a notice to evacuate the premises where she runs her hair business and restaurant.
She alleged that while she and her team were still moving what remained of her property after demolition, the officials denied her access to her belongings.
In a statement, Adu Adegoke, the LASBCA assistant director of public affairs, explained that the properties in question were illegal structures attached to a building.
The agency stated that the property owner was served the necessary notices, including a “convention,” “seal-off,” and “quit” notice.
The statement quoted Gbolahan Oki, the LASBCA general manager, as saying that the agency “followed all due processes in handling the situation”.
Oki said the occupants were instructed to remove the attachments “lawfully, but they failed to obtain the required Demolition Permit, which is a violation of the Lagos State Building Codes and Regulations”.
He alleged that while LASBCA officials were attempting to enforce the law, the owners harassed and obstructed them.
Oki argued that the video circulating on social media, which appears to show Chioma being denied access to her property, aims to “mislead the public and garner undue sympathy for individuals who have continued to violate building and environmental regulations”.
He reassured the public that LASBCA would not be deterred by attempts to distort facts or manipulate public perception.

Read the full statement below:
The attention of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has been drawn to a misleading video circulating online regarding the removal of an illegal attachment to a building by their owners at 1A Olubunmi Owa Street, Off Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa, Lagos.
In line with the Lagos State Government’s commitment to urban regeneration, sustainable development, and the elimination of environmental and security nuisance, LASBCA instructed the owner of the illegal attachment to remove it after multiple notices ranging from Convention, Seal-off and Quit Notices had been duly served on the occupants.
Reacting to the viral video, LASBCA General Manager, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, clarified that the Agency followed all due processes which instructed the occupants to lawfully remove the attachment but the owner proceeded on an illegal removal of the attachment without obtaining Demolition Permit from the Agency an act that disregarded the Lagos State Building Codes and Regulations.
“During LASBCA’s routine monitoring exercise of the area, the illegal demolition of the property carried out by the owner was discovered, and our officials faced resistance from some occupants who had failed to adhere strictly to the State Building Laws,” he said.
Oki also stated that the video in question shows an individual attempting to harass and obstruct LASBCA officials and security personnel who were present to maintain law and order during the exercise.
“It is important to note that the video circulating on social media aims to mislead the public and garner undue sympathy for individuals who have continued to violate Building and Environmental Regulations of the State.”
The General Manager further stated that, in the same video, the author admitted to being served the necessary notices, which undermines the claims made in their narrative and still went ahead to carry out an illegal demolition.
He also stated that LASBCA remains resolute in its mission to ensure safe, secure, and sustainable urban development across Lagos State, and will not be deterred by attempts to distort facts or manipulate public perception.
The LASBCA boss implored the public to disregard the misleading video and support the government’s efforts towards a cleaner, safer, and more organized Lagos.”
