NLC Ready to Rally Against Electricity Price Hike, Threatens Mass Protest

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly urged the Federal Government to abandon any plans to increase electricity tariffs, warning of potential mass resistance against such hikes. Additionally, the NLC has threatened to take action against telecommunication companies if they do not adhere to the agreed 35 percent tariff increase, rather than the previously approved 50 percent by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).
In a communique issued following its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the NLC expressed its unequivocal rejection of the ongoing reclassification of electricity consumers by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). This reclassification aims to move consumers from lower bands to Band A under the guise of service improvement, while in reality, imposing unjustified financial burdens on the public.
The NLC stands firm in its commitment to protecting the interests of the masses and ensuring fair treatment in matters of electricity tariffs and service provision. The organization remains vigilant in monitoring developments in these areas and will take necessary action to uphold the rights of consumers.
