Agents of the Kano State Hisbah Board have apprehended several young men who were accused of not observing the Ramadan fast on the first day of the holy month.

Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, the Deputy Commander General of the Board, confirmed these arrests to reporters in the state. He explained that the suspects were caught during routine patrols carried out by Hisbah officers in various areas of Kano metropolis.

In addition to these arrests, the board also detained approximately 60 individuals for sporting “indecent haircuts” that go against Islamic law and local cultural standards.

Moreover, Hisbah officials caught several commercial tricycle (keke napep) drivers for allegedly allowing male and female passengers to ride together in their vehicles, a practice that the board has made clear it will not condone.

The Board has pledged to continue its patrols to ensure strict compliance with Sharia law throughout the month of Ramadan.
