FRSC sets up 200 mobile courts nationwide to try traffic offenders for easter

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed over 200 mobile court operations nationwide to prosecute traffic offenders as part of its special patrol activities during the 2025 Easter celebrations. This was disclosed by the Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide.

The operation, which began Thursday, April 10, and will run through April 23, is aimed at ensuring a safe and seamless Easter holiday for Nigerians. Mohammed noted that the mobile courts would serve as a critical enforcement tool to address dangerous driving behaviours on the nation’s highways during the festive period.

In addition to the courts, the FRSC has set up a Situation Room at its National Headquarters to monitor activities across the country in real time. This unit will gather and disseminate relevant information to field commands and stakeholders to facilitate prompt response and coordination.

The Corps Marshal outlined several offences that would be targeted during the operation, including speeding, dangerous driving, improper overtaking, lane indiscipline, road obstructions, phone use while driving, overloading, and violations of seatbelt and child restraint laws. Other offences include lack of a passenger manifest, operation of mechanically unfit vehicles, and non-compliance with safety regulations concerning vehicle latching and twist-locking systems.

Commanding officers have been instructed to coordinate with key stakeholders to secure logistical and security support for effective enforcement. These stakeholders include the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

Additional partners include the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), state traffic management agencies, non-governmental organizations, ambulance service providers, the National Network on Emergency Rescue Services (NNES), the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, and the Federal Fire Service.

Mohammed expressed confidence in the public’s cooperation with FRSC personnel and other law enforcement agencies during the operation. He added that volunteers would also assist in traffic management duties throughout the Easter period.
