“Worst show ever?” – 2025 AMAs slammed as fans call It a hot mess
The 2025 American Music Awards may have been held in glitzy Las Vegas, but viewers are saying the show was anything but golden.
From Jennifer Lopez’s jaw-dropping (and jaw-clenching) opening performance to major snubs from music’s biggest names, fans have now rebranded the AMAs: “American Mess Awards.”
Held at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Monday, the star-studded event… well, wasn’t that star-studded. With A-listers like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, and Sabrina Carpenter all MIA, fans were left wondering who exactly the “American Music Awards” were celebrating this year.
And while J.Lo, 55, tried to carry the evening’s energy solo—delivering a six-minute medley and locking lips with both male and female dancers in a raunchy display—the internet didn’t hold back.
“Jennifer Lopez has lost the plot.”
“Why is Jennifer Lopez kissing everyone at the AMAs?”
“That was the worst. Absolute worst.”
Ouch.
As if the awkward opener wasn’t enough, the ceremony itself faced major backlash for skipping the announcement of some of the biggest categories during the live broadcast. Angry fans took to X (formerly Twitter), calling the event everything from a “flop” to “the worst show ever.”
“So y’all decided not to announce the category that probably got the most votes? Yeah, I’m done.”
“American Music Awards, but where were the musicians? All I saw were influencers and Twitch streamers.”
Speaking of bold moments, R&B star Kehlani, 30, sent the internet into a frenzy after using her red carpet moment to say, “Free Palestine,” directly into the camera. She didn’t hold back, calling out the US government for its support of Israel while addressing the ongoing conflict.
“It should be as easy as breathing to say, ‘Hey, I don’t really think people should be getting murdered at mass rates.’”
“We’re funding it, so we should stop.”
Needless to say, her statement sparked heated debate across social platforms.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, nominated in six categories also raised eyebrows for not showing up, with Swifties expressing disappointment, especially after she didn’t win in any of her nominated categories.
Fashion-wise, SZA turned heads with bedazzled pasties peeking through her dress, one of the few actual “celebrity” moments of the night that had people talking for the right reasons.
But overall? The verdict is in.
“This year’s AMAs was a hot mess.”
“95% of the categories weren’t even announced.”
“Too many performances, not enough awards. We’re confused.”
