NRC announces resumption of Warri–Itakpe train service
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will officially resume operations on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, after weeks of suspension for essential maintenance and safety checks.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 26, by Callistus Unyimadu, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, the corporation said the temporary suspension was necessary to carry out critical repairs, system checks, and maintenance on both the tracks and rolling stock, aimed at improving passenger safety, reliability, and comfort.
“The temporary suspension was necessary to carry out critical repairs, maintenance, and system checks on the track and rolling stock to ensure the comfort, reliability, and safety of passengers,” the statement said.
The NRC confirmed that online bookings will reopen by 12 noon on Monday, October 27, 2025, two days before services resume. Passengers can make reservations via the official portal, https://nrc-fane.ng, or at designated stations.
When operations resume, the train will operate with seven coaches, including six standard-class and one business-class coach. The new timetable, which will incorporate temporary speed restrictions (TSR) to ensure safe monitoring, will also be released on Monday.
