Super Eagles winger, Ademola Lookman has said the team is fully focused on bringing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title back to Nigeria.

The Atalanta forward spoke against the backdrop of Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the final play-off in Rabat, Morocco.

Speaking with Elegbete TV Sports, Lookman admitted the World Cup disappointment was painful but stressed that the team is determined to channel that setback into a strong AFCON campaign.

“It’s exciting. Obviously, it’s another competition for us to go out there and prove ourselves once again, so it’s a pleasure to have that pressure on us. We are happy to be here,” Lookman said.

“The reality of missing the World Cup is disappointing for all of us and for the nation. Hopefully, we can turn that pain into something positive and powerful that drives us forward. Right now, I am focused on performing, helping the team in Morocco and, hopefully, bringing glory back home.”

The winger also reflected on Nigeria’s near-success at the last AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, where the Super Eagles finished runners-up.

“Last time in Abidjan, we came so close but didn’t win. Keeping the togetherness and unity we have in the squad is very important for us. It’s what keeps us going,” he said.

Lookman added that quality performances and collective effort will be key to Nigeria’s success at the tournament.

“We have to show quality in our games and show togetherness in our fight. We have that in this team, and once it all comes together, things will be great.”
