Don’t write off Liverpool from Premier League title race – Rooney

Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney has said Liverpool should not be ruled out of the Premier League title race this season.

Speaking on his BBC podcast, Rooney was asked to share his thoughts on the teams most likely to win the title. While he believes Arsenal and Manchester City are currently best positioned to pull away at the top, he insisted Liverpool remain very much in contention.

“It looks like Arsenal and Man City are going to be the two to break away at the top of the Premier League now,” Rooney said.

“Liverpool as well though — if they get a run of form and win a few games, you never rule them out,” he added. “If they get that support behind them, they can have a say.”

Rooney acknowledged the strong performances of other teams but maintained that the title race is likely to be decided by the traditional heavyweights.

“I wouldn’t rule Liverpool out. But Arsenal and City are the two I think will break away. Aston Villa have done fantastically, but I think it will be one of the top two.”
