NANS commends Tinubu, Umahi over Kano Northern Bypass project

The National Association of Nigerian Students has commended President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Works David Umahi over the ongoing construction of the Kano Northern Bypass.

NANS President Akinteye Afeez said the students’ body reached its position after a delegation inspected the project as part of a nationwide tour of federal road projects serving tertiary institutions.

According to NANS, the bypass is expected to improve movement across Kano and neighbouring states while reducing congestion for students and other commuters travelling through the area.

Afeez said the road connects routes serving about 10 tertiary institutions in the North-West and could make journeys to campuses easier when completed.

The project comprises a 69.4-kilometre dual carriageway, three flyovers and seven bridges, according to the students’ association.

NANS said its delegation was encouraged by the pace and quality of work observed during the inspection.

The association also welcomed compensation reportedly paid to farmers whose agricultural land was affected by the construction.

However, NANS urged the Federal Government to maintain the pace of construction and ensure the project is completed without unnecessary delays.

The association said improved road infrastructure around tertiary institutions could contribute to safer and easier movement for students travelling across the region.
